Critics Consensus

Led by an outstanding central performance from Mary Elizabeth Winstead and brilliantly held together by writer-director Eva Vives, All About Nina is a delightfully raw dramedy.

Nell Minow AWFJ.org Mary Elizabeth Winstead gives a performance that is both fearless and nuanced... Oct 11, 2021 Full Review Kristen Yoonsoo Kim Miami New Times Always a likable actor, here Winstead is at a charismatic high, carrying a mediocre film, making it impossible to turn off through her star power alone. Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Barry Hertz Globe and Mail Mostly, Vives' work is a series of punch lines that feel more like gut punches - a relentless challenge that Winstead handles with seeming ease. Rated: 3/4 Oct 12, 2018 Full Review Nikki Baughan AWFJ.org An electric turn from Mary Elizabeth Winstead pulses through this striking feature debut from short filmmaker Eva Vives, which effectively shines a light on issues of honesty, identity and equality... Oct 11, 2021 Full Review Jennifer Merin AWFJ.org It's the character-driven story of a stand up comic who hides her vulnerability behind a mask of tough humor, alcohol and casual sex. Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars and is absolutely brilliant. Oct 11, 2021 Full Review Betsy Bozdech AWFJ.org A raw and heartbreaking - and, sadly, never more relevant - exploration of an abuse survivor's anger, loss, and sadness. Ronald S A dark dramadey about a broken woman who becomes a comedian to cover the pains of a devastating past. Not a bad movie for a solo viewing, but not a good date movie either. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review steve d Somewhat unpleasant but Mary Elizabeth Winstead should have gotten all the awards. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I wasn't expecting an indie character study lead by the always-convincing Winstead to be so uproarious and amusing. The ending is such a low-blow stalemate that would serve better as a second act in this kind of story. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I usually love Common and Mary Elizabeth Winslow... but neither of them could save this script. Oh my God, it's awkward. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Mary Elizabeth Winstead isn't someone I would've pegged to nail a role as a stand-up comedian. However, she does a tremendous job and takes an otherwise okay film up a notch with her work. She has good chemistry with Common and her on-stage monologue is fantastic, though it does feel like a big change for the film's tone. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review John S Good movie, funny, human and harsh. Good job making a movie that was reasonable to watch while addressing a difficult subject head on.
