Tara Brady Irish Times Directors Danny Clinch, Taryn Gould, and Colleen Hennessy have sifted through hundreds of hours of footage to fashion something that allows for a sense of the person behind the rock casualty. Rated: 4/5 Apr 15, 2022 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Hoon departed with a great deal left to say. Rated: 4/5 Apr 7, 2022 Full Review Phil Hoad Guardian It can’t of course be taken at face value as the truth about his drug addiction or broader emotional life, but it is a fine portrait of a seeker wading through the human reality at the heart of fame. Rated: 4/5 Apr 6, 2022 Full Review Benjamin H. Smith Decider It perfectly captures what it means to be a young man, hurtling through life, balancing on that high wire between folly and adulthood. Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix We get to see [Shannon Hoon's] perspective as a talented but self-destructive person who found out that fame wasn't the answer to his problems. Jul 11, 2020 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Regardless of the band's musical legacy, the film finds a bittersweet emotional rhythm amid its uneven structure. samuel l A very intimate look into shannon hoon life(the singer of blind melon),i am a fan of the band alongside many others and all i can say(pun) is the movie revolve about real footage and archive filmed by hoon himself,my favorite moment is when he is in japan and when he play with his niece who said there a ugly monster who can eat him,the film is full of endearing moment about a likeable but broken guy who died tragically too young Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow, what can I say about this movie/docu. I only seen this movie/docu. once. I went with 5 stars across the board for this movie/docu. It is really rare that I would/do rate anything this many stars for any movie/show/docu. etc.... I would watch this movie/docu. again, but f.y.i., it is really sad. If you are as old (cough, cough, wink, wink) as me then you do know what happens sadly. Not to spoil anything for those that do not know. If you are a fan of their's and their music, as I am please give this movie/docu. a watch. Go watch it and give it some love. The docu./movie is put together so well etc... It is shot on a pesonal camera of Shannon Hoon, as he films his life over a short span of time. The clips on the movie/docu. shows him as a partner, dad, friend, band memeber, and etc,,, You see him as he was. You almost feel like you have a bird's eye view if you will, it is sad in a way to watch. You will find youself relating, smiling and maybe even may shed a tear I recommed this movie/docu. 5 stars. You will learn more about this band/Shannon Hoon if you watch this docu./movie. They were/are more then a "one hit wonder" or "that band with the bee girl/bee girl video" or whatever people may think of this band etc.... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I would have preferred a more typical style of documentary with interviews and a narrative of some kind. It was a very intimate look into Shannon Hoon and as a Blind Melon fan some of it was worth watching, but it probably should have been 30 minutes shorter. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review John P Perfect. Fan or not, it is a very interesting and unique view into the industry at the time. You're watching someone's life go by as well, which is as captivating as it can be eery. Some of the negative reviews from critics seem close minded to me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/20 Full Review Audience Member I absolutely loved this documentary. There were parts that broke my heart. There were parts that made me laugh. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves or wants to know more about Shannon Hoon. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
