Karen Han CutPrintFilm The story's just chaff; the movie's worth seeing for its performances if you're a fan of those involved. Otherwise, it's forgettable, just like the last hours of being up all night. Rated: 5/10 Dec 8, 2017 Full Review Rex Reed Observer Despite J.K. Simmons' gruff charm and inarguable charisma, the movie is so slight it vanishes without a trace faster than the dislocated Ginnie. Rated: 1/4 Mar 29, 2017 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle It's Netflix and chill fodder for sure, but even with its relatively short running time and Simmons' rampant charisma, All Nighter feels way too much like its own title, a soporific exercise in style over substance. Rated: 2/5 Mar 23, 2017 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall It's slickly directed by Gavin Wiesen, and Seth Owen's script has a relaxed, freewheeling trajectory. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 3, 2020 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com There's a formula behind All Nighter that isn't all too original but the life that J.K. Simmons and Emile Hirsch bring to the formula make up for the lack of originality on display. Rated: 3/5 Oct 31, 2018 Full Review Edu Galán Cinemanía (Spain) It's not even a bad movie, it's something worse: forgettable. Jeffrey P Well performed ‘odd couple’ road movie of sorts with an ending that underwhelms. It doesn’t break the mold and succeeds in not trying to do so. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Stephen H Came into watching this with low expectations, with JK Simmons selling it for me. As far as feel good comedies go it had me laughing most of the time, with OK pacing. Admittedly there is a part in the later half of the first third where I was thinking to myself "how many places are we going to go before the narrative picks up". But on the whole it moved ok. The acting was there, nothing ground breaking but JK Simmons stealing every scene was what I was there for, and enjoyed the forced rapore with Martin, Emile Hirsch's character. Maybe it was the low self esteem desperate musician who has been in Martin's shoes more times than I care to admit but it did speak to me, and I always enjoy something that has a bit of character growth. Anyway, watched on stream on a quiet slow Sunday afternoon, I didn't need for much else. So for me it's a solid 8/10. But if I was to put my critical hat on it would score lower. Most often some films are what they are and have to be treated like such. Not everything is Avengers Endgame. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/23 Full Review seán m A lovely gentle movie that doesn't really go anywhere with a bang but has a nice heart. Took a chance and enjoyed it, don't understand the poor reviews. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review J.R. C This 2017 film came out in limited release and is overlooked. JK Simmons does his usual excellent performance. The plot draws you in slowly as his daughter is missing. It is light hearted in delivery with a twist at the end. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member 3.5 . Love these type of movies screw the snobs Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/22 Full Review Audience Member I was not looking for, or expecting, constant drama, so I found this an endearing buddy movie/road trip with the oddest pair of buddies in a long time. The lead characters, played by J K Simmons and Emile Hirsch, get into some archtypical situations, but the outcomes are unusual for Hollywood. I was happy to get to know these characters. I cannot say much more without spoiling some part of the movie, but if you like character-driven stories, you will like this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
