All That’s Left of You readies the audience for tears by the final reel, but Dabis’ narrative twist pushes the film into a movie-ish unreality that conveniently ties a bow on the script’s pondering of the value of choosing love over hate.

The film was in pre-production during the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks and Israel's subsequent invasion of Gaza, which forced filmmakers to shoot in Cyprus, Greece and Jordan. It's a fresh dislocation that can't help coloring how this wrenching film is received.

Dabis’ film is also a story of different kinds of love and being able to make choices even when they seem impossible. Among them, the choice to somehow go on no matter what appears to be the most devastating – but also at least a little bit soothing.

It humanizes people who are pervasively de-humanized; it grapples with the most sensitive of human experiences and emotions with unashamed honesty; and it showcases tender care, pain, and enduring love that Palestinians have for their children, their partners, their elders, and their land.

Profoundly moving with a sweeping storyline across generations and a narrative I have never seen portrayed before on film. Beautiful acting- the young actor performing as young Noor really stood out to me, as did the married couple together navigating life's greatest challenges. Yes, the movie is long, but I was glued to my seat and every scene and all dialogue was essential to the plot development. This movie will change you- my group of 6 six friends lingered long after the movie to discuss the experience- which is exactly the goal of cinema, isn't it?
