Roger M A delightful story which the audience reviews largely praised, indicating 81%. The ridiculously low 27% from Rotten Tomatoes is hard to fathom. Perhaps the so-called top critics thought that the plot was contrived. This mini-series was enjoyable, with an emotional flavour, keeping one enthralled. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review George H Good show, but the director seems totally obsessed with handguns. In every episode the German soldier pulls out a pistol and sticks it in the other actor's face. It's almost comical. The book isn't at all like this with the guns! This obsession really detracts from the otherwise very good story and acting. Boom boom- bang, everyone is shot, unlike in the book where the German's mostly followed protocol when it came to reprimanding their own subordinates or handling prisoners. Too bad, it could have been much easier to watch and even more enjoyable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Penny B How do I delete this review? This is not the movie I intended to review. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/19/23 Full Review David Z A group of us who had read the book gathered to watch the Netflix series. The two stars are unknown (even by the professional critics) in the U.S. Louis Hofmann is an up-an-coming German actor who has received many accolades in his home country and Aria Mia Loberti, an actual blind woman studying for a Ph.D., has no background in cinema. Nevertheless, the story line, although somewhat hokey (a dying man searching for a diamond that assures eternal life) has an emotional appeal that captures all but cynical professional critics. Much discussion will take place about this film and Hofmann and Loberti will find a niche in future American cinema despite the critics' condescension. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Sandra W I have just watched this movie without knowing anything about it. I have read a few ‘bad' reviews but they didn't change my own view on it! I get that the accents were all over the place and the backdrops were in places very unconvincing, none the less I loved this story. In a world that has such a blurred view of what is good and what is evil I celebrated with the writer that there is are very clear attributes of goodness and evil. I also loved that goodness, even though it may have lost some battles, won the war! For me it was refreshingly old fashioned enough to delight my heart. It may have had romantic cliched characters but with all that's going on in the world I am very grateful for these four hours of seeing evil being crushed and goodness having its v-day.
