What to Know

Critics Consensus

This adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel comes off as rather flat and uninvolving. Scenes feel rushed and done in shorthand, and the romance between Damon and Cruz has no sparks.

Alain E It’s watchable, but rather flat. Same with the cinematography: rarely there is a scene that grabs the viewer. Verpasste Chance, Billy Bob. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/23/24 Full Review Audience Member One of Matt Damon’s best jobs in this all the pretty horses was one good movie highly recommend it James Welch, Henderson, Arkansas October 27, 2023 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Damon & Cruz's love story seems a little microwaved, but the adventure of the story keeps you barely hanging on. Damon plays a character bound to get some horses back and live justly, even if the morality of it all is a little forced. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review dave s To be fair, Billy Bob Thornton's All the Pretty Horses isn't nearly as bad as it has been made out to be. That's not to say that it's good because it's far from anything that could even remotely be considered as good. Based on Cormac McCarthy's novel, a book filled with sparse and poetic prose, the movie adaptation feels more bloated and meandering than anything else, unable to nail down one storyline let alone the several that it tries to deal with. The cinematography captures the arid landscape nicely, the performances are decent (especially that of Lucas Black) and the score is appropriate to the time and place, but once the love interest angle is introduced, you just don't seem to care all that much. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member so bad .The acting is good. But hey this is a romantic movie. The scenes between Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz were totally missed.
