      Critics Consensus

Elevated by Auli'i Cravalho's charming performance, All Together Now is an uplifting drama that stays largely on the right side of the line between sweet and cloying.

A C Sooo good!! Love the acting and story! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/06/24 Full Review Sam A (Spoiler alert). Yes, life is hard. A lot of people really struggle with all the things mentioned in this movie : poverty, sickness, death, cumulating jobs, and the like. BUT, I can't stand so many things in this movie that ruin everything : 1) The acting is really bad. Cravalho has about one facial expression, and the rest of the cast is not really much better. 2) Too much melodrama : she's poor, homeless, her father died, her mom is an alcoholic who dates a violent guy, she dies, her dog has cancer... what else ? I mean, at this point, give her tubercolusis on top of it all... 3) The relationships are unrealistic : the one with the mother is ok and understandable, but seriously : people help you and you tell them to go to hell and they just magically forget, and no one talks about it ? Not even a little "I'm sorry" ? I stopped 25 min before the end. The cancer dog and "I hate people who wanna help me" attitude just did it for me. I'm sure the end is all gooey, but I don't care. It's just impossible to relate to anyone in this film, and the story is really too much. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/14/23 Full Review peter S I was shocked by how good an actress Cravalho is. The story is solid. The cast is good. I enjoyed the movie a lot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/23/23 Full Review Henry V This movie is full of hope, desire, and a cast that works. The buildup is quite a cliche I will admit, but the ending makes up for the drastic turn of events that unfold. I love it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/23 Full Review Bonaparte Absolute Garbage unrealistic Disney trash. Aluli should stick to voice acting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Karissa N This movie is hard for me to watch. IN A GOOD WAY. I grew up in ways like this, I also loved my dog. He was my life. Just like this girl, I also have a hard time asking for help. The movie most definitely pulled at some heart strings to know that maybe there are good people out there in this world that are actually willing to help. Karen Han Polygon Apart from a too-neat finale, director Brett Haley (Hearts Beat Loud) comes close to nailing a story that's rarely told (let alone told well) in such feel-good fare. Aug 31, 2020 Full Review Katie Walsh Los Angeles Times "All Together Now" crescendos so subtly and so beautifully it's overwhelming, infused with the love and power of collective care. Basking in the sheer goodness of a group coming together to lift up the most vulnerable among them is a balm to the soul. Aug 27, 2020 Full Review Benjamin Lee Guardian Haley, scripting with Quick himself, is so eager to drown his film in sugar that the grimness quickly becomes soapy instead and any emotional response we might have fizzles with similar speed. Rated: 2/5 Aug 27, 2020 Full Review Joe Lipsett Hazel & Katniss & Harry & Starr Podcast Cravalho shines (as always) but the colour blind/diverse casting of her friends means nothing when they're shallow, 1-dimensional characters. The film's emotionally manipulative narrative disguises an uncomfortable message about the "deserving poor" May 9, 2023 Full Review Nicolas Soto But Why Tho? A Geek Community All Together Now has a unique premise put a great twist on a coming-of-age story that I wasn’t expecting. Rated: 8/10 Jan 22, 2023 Full Review Jane Freebury The Canberra Times (Australia) Silver Linings Playbook was good at dissecting relationships, but All Together Now seems to have been dashed off and comes to our screens underwritten.
