Steve D Only Kay gives it any life. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review ashley h Allotment Wives is an okay film. It is about an Army officer investigates a bigamy racket in which scheming women marry soldiers to collect their government checks. Kay Francis and Paul Kelly give decent performances. The screenplay is well written. William Nigh did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member One of three low budget programmers that Kay Francis wrapped her film career up with. She gives a good performance as the leader of a shell game bilking the government out of allotment monies and is well supported by Otto Kruger and Paul Kelly. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Kay Fwancis, the best dwessed woman in Hollywood, throws her furs around, slaps her naughty daughter, runs a prostitution ring, wields a tiny pistol concealed in an elegant scarf, and wears Joan Crawford's Mildred Pierce hair like a champ, but the movie refuses to be saved. Slow pacing, bland secondary performances, and a half-hearted noir script and direction doom it into not-very-interesting b-picture territory.
