Dale R This is about a boy who successfully auditions into the Vienna Boys Choir and is so good that he knocks the older kids out of the solo positions and they get mad at him. Plus his dad doesn’t like him becoming a musician. All this conflict is resolved way too soon in the movie, so they add another conflict and then it becomes a concert of the Vienna Boys Choir in different locations. I would have been way more interested in a documentary following the Vienna Boys Choir on tour somewhere. Not recommended at all. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Russell H I thought it was boring with slow and annoying singing. I literally fell asleep but it probably just doesn't age well. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Bit of nostalgia for me to rediscover this lesser known Disney movie. I was seven when I saw it in a movie theater and at least once more on Disney's Wonderful World of Color. All these decades later, I'm still charmed by the slight stories that are woven together. It's a marvelous glimpse into the Vienna Boys Choir during the early 1960s as well as a reminder of what my lower-middle class parents went through to buy me a piano. I love harmony, so this movie is worth a listen just for that. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review r 9 It can go slow in parts, but all in all I actually enjoyed 'Almost Angels'. It's a sweet little story, admittedly it is one that could've been expanded upon and made more awe-inspiring than it is - similar to Disney's 'The Littlest Outlaw' from 1955 in that regard. None of the child actors are all that great, yet are still perfectly suitable for their roles. Peter Weck is the best member of this film, as he brings a charming and kind quality to Max Heller. It's a relatively small cast. The plot isn't perfect, as the film literally starts with one protagonist but ends with another - to the point where it kinda feels like they didn't know which story they wanted to tell most. As alluded to near the top, I would've loved if this was more grittier and harsher - so it would feel like we went on a journey with Tony (Vincent Winter) and Peter (Sean Scully). With that said, this is still a production that leaves positive thoughts. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review s r I love Vienna and this movie made me want to learn to sing in a choir.
