Johnny Loftus Decider Almost Cops is most enjoyable in its interplay between Jandino Asporaat and Werner Kolf as Ramon and Jack. Aug 5, 2025 Full Review Jose Solís Common Sense Media This Dutch buddy cop film is a sweet and surprisingly fresh comedy that finds its own rhythm by grounding action tropes in the streets of Rotterdam. Jul 22, 2025 Full Review Pablo O. Scholz Clarín ...everything is mixed in Almost Cops, which is worthwhile as entertainment, unless you have too many pretensions and don't sit in front of the television with too many expectations. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/4 Jul 22, 2025 Full Review Grant Hermanns Screen Rant Netflix's Almost Cops certainly has a great performance at its forefront, but with a routine story and few laughs, it's a forgettable cop comedy. Rated: 4/10 Jul 14, 2025 Full Review Jonathon Wilson Ready Steady Cut A half-decent movie in this genre should be a winner through novelty value alone, but if Almost Cops proves anything, it’s that there is such a thing as too safe, too derivative, and too confused for nostalgia alone to be enough. Rated: 2/5 Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies Much like how Hot Fuzz parodied, satirized, and paid homage to Michael Bay and American “copaganda” action films in general, Almost Cops does seem like an attempt to “Americanize” Dutch cinema, especially in terms of its portrayal of cops. Rb B A typical Dutch movie. I would not recommend it Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/21/25 Full Review Marco L (CASTELLANO) Tiene algún momento simpático, no lo voy a negar. No cuadra. (ENGLISH) It has a few funny moments, I won't deny it. But if you're looking for a comedy that makes you laugh non-stop, you better look elsewhere. Almost Cops tries to be many things at once—action, drama, satire, social commentary—and ends up being none of them. The whole thing feels like a movie that doesn’t know who it’s for or what tone it wants to keep. One moment it’s trying to critique police corruption, and the next it’s making poop jokes. It doesn’t add up. The main duo works... sometimes. The chemistry between Ramón and Jack could’ve been much better if the script weren’t filled with clichés and recycled twists. Most of the humor feels forced or straight-up childish. And worst of all: there are scenes that aim for seriousness, but neither the pacing nor the visual style supports it. The direction never finds the right tone, and the story lurches forward with choppy editing, flat dialogue, and ridiculous action scenes. The Rotterdam setting is totally wasted. They could’ve leaned into the local context or real social dynamics, but instead, they chose to copy American formulas with zero personality. There's nothing here that makes it stand out or feel rooted in a specific place. This could’ve been shot anywhere and it wouldn’t have made a difference. What’s really sad is that you can sense there was a message behind it all: some social critique, an attempt to show that the lowest-ranking officers are often the ones closest to the people. But it’s so poorly executed that it doesn’t move, doesn’t hit, doesn’t leave any mark. It’s a missed opportunity—a sloppy mix of genres and references that steps all over itself. In short: there are a couple of moments that might make you smile, but this is a messy, aimless, and boring film. One of those comedies that simply isn’t funny, that promises thrills but delivers apathy. If Netflix is going to keep betting on international productions, they better back stronger ones. Because this one... this one’s a mess. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review ARNEZ C This was a really fun movie to enjoy that lead looks like Kevin hart I'm glad I got to see it kinda reminds of a bit national security Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review BRizz 2 Almost Cops (2025) is a foreign-language comedy released on Netflix that, unfortunately, misses the mark in several ways. While the premise promises a blend of humor and offbeat chaos, the execution falls short—mainly due to the incredibly distracting dubbing. The voiceovers are so poorly matched to the characters that it completely pulls you out of the film, making it nearly impossible to stay engaged. The story tries to be edgy and absurd in a comedic way, but it comes off as messy and hard to follow. And to be clear—this isn’t about not liking foreign films. In fact, Sky Force is one of my top films this year and it’s a foreign release done right. The issue here lies in the lack of connection and immersion. A comedy should keep you entertained throughout, and this one just didn’t do that. Overall, Almost Cops was a disappointment. I can’t recommend it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/14/25 Full Review David D Having spent a semester living and studying in Holland, this film has a WASPy New York feel to it…except the film is full of BASP’s. Also, setting aside the BASP’s, they cast the smallest Dutch people I’ve ever seen. Holland is the land of the giants. Its the very healthy diet and lifestyle. The tourists are the one puffing on the legalised stuff. All that aside, it’s a bit of fun. A real throwback to the 1980 US buddy movies. That said I’d check twice to ensure that there is nothing else on. Yippy Eye O Mudder Feckers! Yep, its got that too. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/25 Full Review Alex R It was ok-ish. Could be better, but for a Dutch movie ok. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
