Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine Without dramatic development or a contemporary perspective, what remains is a comedy that seems designed by an algorithm that wants to appeal to everyone, but says nothing. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 2/10 Jul 28, 2025 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media This film is meant to evoke the comic parental anxieties of Father of the Bride and movies like it. Jul 23, 2025 Full Review John Serba Decider Movies like Almost Family intend to be artificial, escapist joke machines, but if the comedy isn’t on-point, we’re more likely to be bored, annoyed, or some delectable melange of both. Streaming Without A Andrew and Ted, host of (the Whats Streaming Review Podcast) "Streaming Without A Paddle" sat down and discussed what they thought about the feature film "Almost Family". In a nutshell, both Andrew and Ted, found the feature to enjoyable enough for what it was ... that being a Brazilian produced version of a Hallmark Movie. The performances, while fine in general, were found to be indicative of a performance where the actors were only granted a few takes due to the nature of the project and of course the budgetary limitations. The story itself was actually kind of cute and from a production standpoint probably a victim of the nature of the project itself. Andrew and Ted both noticed the lack of any sort of establishing and or "B" Roll shots to help tie scenes together beyond the typical pan or dolly shot. But if you want a fresh and comical full review of "Almost Family" please check out "Streaming Without A Paddle" where Andrew and Ted will provide more detailed thoughts along with their individual scores. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Fabricio G This film is a mediocre attempt at family entertainment that ultimately falls flat. The acting is consistently over the top, with performances that feel more like caricatures than real people. The Brazilian actor, in particular, delivers a painfully exaggerated portrayal that borders on parody. To make matters worse, the use of Portuguese throughout the film feels forced and inauthentic — as if the actors learned their lines phonetically rather than speaking the language naturally. This lack of linguistic credibility undermines any cultural charm the movie might have aimed for. Despite its colorful visuals and lighthearted premise, the movie fails to truly engage or entertain. It’s a forgettable product designed to appeal broadly but lacking the heart, wit, or originality needed to make it worthwhile. Families might sit through it, but they probably won’t remember it — and they certainly won’t want to watch it again. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Theresa B It wasn't a really good movie. The actors were mediocre and the acting wasn't really that good. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone it's actually not worth the watch. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Aaron P Can't follow it, voice and actors are not together. Not a funny movie, no high school jokes play by old people. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review C H I could not even watch more than a minute of the movie on Netflix because the voices and lips in the movie are not in sync which completely ruins it.
