S E What did he eat? Did he fish? How much water did he carry? How heavy was the boat? This is a good film but it needs more detail on surviving and planning. Beautiful scenery. Once you start watching it will take you in to the end. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review S L I've watched loads of survival shows, documentaries, and epic journeys like this one. But this one lacked what I love about the others. Roughness. I thought the main ‘character' was going to rough it out on foot, at least part of the time. It's actually a 3 month canoe ride with bits of camping near the water. He gives us some local area information, like who died on similar journeys, shows very old, dilapidated buildings. But no hunting, very little on local plants you can survive on, barely anything about his 100 days of meals, and actually not much on his personal thoughts or hardships. The best scene like those are one with a saved teabag. Did he keep refilling his giant cooler with river water? We assume so. What did the plane mid-journey bring him? Who knows. Did the plane take anything back out? No idea. Did his brother get the canoe in the end? No clue. Just a long canoe ride. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Aaron G Follow Adam Shoalts as he documents his 4000 km journey across northern Canada by the Arctic Circle during the short summer months. He paddles and portages his trusty canoe from West to East. Adam doesn't tell you what to think or how you should observe his journey. Here quietly documents animal encounters, old forts, tombstones, rapids, and hordes of black flies. There is no griping or complaining, and you won't find him trying to make a moment more adventurous or dangerous. It's a rhythmic plodding across remote landscapes, and the film instills a sense of quiet simplicity and enduring emotions. It's refreshing and beautiful, and I know I will return to this film again when I'm in need of being grounded in nature. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
