Phil Hoad Guardian It’s a bit sad that director Mark Burman needed two other writers to turn out this perfunctorily handled heap of metal-fatigued tropes. Rated: 2/5 Feb 27, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times “Ambush” has the structure of an old-fashioned two-fisted combat picture, but with too little actual combat. Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Todd Gilchrist Variety Smarter and more entertaining than one might expect from a small-scale, outwardly familiar story like this, “Ambush” feels like a throwback — mostly in a good way — to the ‘Namsploitation films that companies like Cannon churned out in the 1980s, Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Unimpressive low-budget cliched Vietnam war film. Rated: C+ Mar 3, 2023 Full Review Jeffrey Lyles Lyles' Movie Files Ambush doesn’t revolutionize the Nam movie experience, but it’s impressively staged with action scenes that work within the budget while leaning heavily on its cast to tell an engaging and unique story. Rated: 8.5/10 Feb 26, 2023 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media Despite a creaky plot setup and a small budget, this Vietnam War story delivers commentary on the hypocrisy of war while still respecting the people who risk their lives to fight. George V Could only stand about 5 or 6 minutes. Hard to distinguish if it’s drama or comedy. If it’s comedy it still can’t touch Tropic Thunder. If it’s drama, well then that’s just sad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/25 Full Review Steven M I stopped watching it five minutes in when they had a corporal in charge of a fire base Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Barry B How many ways can you make a terrible Vietnam war movie? Watch this movie and find out. A Lt. Colonel (“LTC”) wearing full Colonel Eagles instead of silver oak leaf (not to mention rank insignia not cloth or subdued and worn on chest instead of blouse collar), a LTC calling a captain (lower rank) “sir”; saluting at a forward combat base, etc. The actors are not good but it’s the script and dialogue that is terrible. The premise (classified documents stolen) is pretty pathetic. Continued watching it so I could see how many inaccuracies it contains. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Jim V This. Is. Bad. What is going on with the multiple bad decisions in the movie itself? Talking in the tunnels, standing up during a gunfight, etc. Why do they have 2 hours? And how did the enemy get the list when it was hidden (maybe not hidden well) but still?? So much of this movie doesn't make sense and the writers didn't try to make sense of it either. I would not recommend. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review J S The plethora of Exec Producers & Co-Producers should have hired someone with basic knowledge to be the set advisor. Too many minor errors in Rank, Equipment, Uniforms and how to address Soldiers in conversation to hold one's attention. The actors did a good job with the screen play and scripts they were given; its to bad the Director was clueless. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Chris M I would give this show negative five stars if I could. Corporals do not get called sir by their fellow soldiers. They are underpaid Junior ncos that typically receive a field promotion but have not gone to Sergeant school yet. They certainly do not get put in charge of an entire firebase being built by a platoon of Engineers. The US snipers that are sneaking up to the American Firebase seems to be holding a hinge action pellet gun with a scope on it. Jonathan Rhys Meyers enters the tent and introduces himself as Lieutenant Colonel while he is wearing full bird rank. Full bird Colonels typically do not go running around in the jungle with hunting dogs looking for the enemy. they give those orders to lower ranking officers and Senior ranking enlisted personnel. When they start searching for the binder and the Viet Cong they are ambushed and one of the American soldiers has a m16a2 flat top with flip sites. M16a2 flat tops were not being issued until the late 90s. The cheap flat top sites we're certainly not being issued to soldiers they were more commercialized for civilians. This is where I stopped watching the movie because of its ignorance and low interest poor quality and lack of raw knowledge. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
