dave j The thesis regards ICE (Intelligence Counter Espionage) attempting to retrieve a secret flying saucer with Matt Helm at the helm posing as husband and wife, with another ICE agent. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Well it's a bit of an overkill by now... but Dean went on to make a fourth Matt Helm which I think I voluntarily missed. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member "They get you when you're high, they get you when you're low. They get you when you're standing still or else when you're on the go. They're the Ambushers." A flying saucer built by the U.S. government is launched into space on a top secret test flight and can only be piloted by a woman. Sheila Sommars is the pilot chosen and all goes well until Jose Ortega uses a secret remote control device to cause the ship to land at his secret base in Mexico. With Sheila posing as his wife, agent Matt Helm is assigned to find the saucer in Mexico where he has to deal with not only Ortega and his henchman Quintana, but also enemy agent Fracesca Madeiros and an Arab agent/assassin named Nassim. I happened to have discovered this old gem from the '60s on a recent television broadcast and liked it. Released on March 1, 1968, The Ambushers has all of the following that made it fun: espionage, scheming villains, an upbeat opening, and sexy women. And let's not forget our hero Helm...Matt Helm. In an incredible acting performance made possible by the late Dean Martin, he sure was a suave secret agent who was a powerful competitor to another agent popular around that same time, James Bond. His costar Janice Rule was a real hot sidekick that even starlets during that '60s never failed to amaze me for their beauty, and that Sheila Sommars character was one of them. Overall, I can say that The Ambushers is a great movie with enough action for everybody to see if they are Dean Martin fans, fans of anything from the '60s, or want to be honorary Ambushers. Just after watching this title I discovered that I happened to have seen one of the installments in the Matt Helm series of films, so when I get the chance to watch the others then I'm interested. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member The third Matt Helm movie. Still bad, still fun. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member "You know what happens to people who get caught in an electromagnetic field? They DIE!" Love the 60s sci-fi-spy cheese. Love the awful awful double entendres. Love the hydromechanical servo valve beer lifting suits. Love the sweet purple boots. Love the sweet lime green boots. Love the sweet orange over-the-knee boots. Love the Get Smart-y villain. Love his house full of titty paintings. Love the Fez-wearing baddie (Silly spies, never trust a man in a fez on a plane.) Love his baby blue Mustang. Love when the woman says, "But Maaaatt," and it sounds like, "But Maaaaax." Way better than The Silencers. If only Dean Martin were, like, actually attractive. I gots to respect Matt's lilac pants and matching lilac shoes, though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
