      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Amelia takes the compelling raw materials of its subject's life and does little with them, conventionally ticking off Earhart's accomplishments without exploring the soul of the woman.

EPC1948 R Absolute garbage and a total disservice to Amelia Earhart. Even run at double speed it was boring and patronising. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Audience Member I have to say Hillary Swank was the best actress for this movie. She looked just like her. I think the movie would have been better with other male leads. I enjoyed how they would bring the black and whites to life . Something was king of off. I blame Richard Gere Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review robert p Ugh trust me this Movie is horrible. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Either Amelia was the most boring woman on earth or Hilary Swank should have been tarred and feather for her performance. Uhh... but then again I'd probably be off my game if I had to make out with Richard Gere. It' an insult that he's even on the film cover with her. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member It's good movie to watch Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly poor, given the stellar cast. The biography doesn't lend itself to dramatisation, at least not in this account. It's told rather than lived. Interesting to learn the facts - she was very effective in promoting women as pilots and independent in her relationships with men. She comes over as soft here, whereas I imagine she had a much harder edge. A little more imagination would have made this a more enjoyable tale. Ty Burr Boston Globe Rated: 2/4 Nov 24, 2011 Full Review Rex Reed Observer It has beautiful cinematography, a star performance that is shocking in its authenticity, a careful eye for nuance and detail and an irresistible blend of action and romance that should spell automatic success. Dec 10, 2009 Full Review Angie Errigo Empire Magazine Swank's moving performance, the period dressing and beautiful planes all appeal, but dramatically it doesn't really soar. Rated: 3/5 Nov 13, 2009 Full Review Tim Stevens The Spool Earhart, a rebellious obsessive with an active distaste for societal convention, ends up feeling flat in practice.
