Audience Member America's Musical Journey does a great job at encompassing the American creative spirit in just 40 minutes! The film is dense with history, rich in culture and the images are breathtaking! It is a great film for the whole family, as it will inspire children around the world to explore and express their creative freedom. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member America's Musical Journey is such an amazing film and I am so glad that something like this was made! We got to follow such a talented and inspiring actor through the history of music in America and I did not only learn so much that I did not previously know but I enjoyed it, sang along and was smiling about 95% of the time. Definitely, a film you want to see and definitely a film that you should bring children to because it is very inspiring and educational. It will definitely make you appreciate the craft of music even more than you already do (may even go again!)! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a disappointment if you're expecting a survey of America's musical history. The only two musicians dealt with in detail are Louis Armstrong and Aloe Blacc (the presenter) . Forget the blues, punk or reggae. Motown is reduced to a single sentence mention. Lets just skip the 60's and 70's. However, there is a complete rendition of an Aloe Blacc song compete with flash mob. Country is reduced to how Aloe Blacc would sound with a banjo or steel guitar. Legendary figures of the great genres of America music are completely ignored. The title is misleading. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I went with a small group and we were all disappointed. This was not a journey through American music. We weren't really sure what the point t was. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I had a lot of fun with this one! Seeing it in IMAX really made me feel like I was flying over many cities I had only visited on foot, and I really really want to go to New Orleans now! It is by no means a full history of all music, but that would be way to dense for a 40 minute film that the whole family could enjoy. My 6 year old niece was dancing in her seat the whole time! It also really made me think about all of the international influences that make American culture such a unique melting pot. Soren Andersen Seattle Times The positivity that runs through "America's Musical Journey" is wedded to an underlying celebration of the country's diversity. Rated: 3/4 Sep 5, 2018 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Variety A distinctly inferior 3D IMAX film, an oversize tease of a sonic-adventure documentary that leaves you hollow rather than bedazzled. Feb 16, 2018 Full Review Michael Heaton Cleveland Plain Dealer America's Musical Journey is a trip the whole family will enjoy -- and the kids might accidentally learn something about history, geography and musical culture while they are having a good time. Rated: A+ Mar 23, 2018 Full Review Daniel Eagan Film Journal International Even the corny moments work in America's Musical Journey. Feb 16, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
