Beautiful scenery and restrained dialog give the film a lyrical quality even as the story and acting bring a strongly authentic overtone. All in all a success, even if I felt that it could have gone a bit deeper with the characters. The story set in 1999 is a clever metaphor of the theme, fearing but desiring the unknowns. Genuine and natural human emotions are rarely delivered nowadays. (I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's Christian Esquivel - he is The Best. Someone make him more famous.) Also, I liked how tender it was? That is a weird way of describing a movie, but it is the closest I can get. It's a very slow film but keeps you interested throughout. The performances are great, and the story is simple yet powerful and moving at the same time. Everything in the film is down to earth and true to life, the feelings are genuine, the nudity is natural. This is something you rarely see in Hollywood movies.
