A fierce undercover agent, Joshua (Ayushmann Khurrana), is on a mission to unite the country. The film follows Joshua's journey in a conflict-ridden region of Northeast India, where he's posted to facilitate a peace accord with the largest militant group and its rebel leader, Tiger Sanga. As a part of his mission, Joshua tries to infiltrate a separatist group by befriending one of its member's daughters, Aido. A ferocious boxer, Aido dreams of winning a gold medal for India. Even though she faces discrimination at every step, Aido continues to fight for a spot on the national team, hoping to be accepted as an Indian by making the country proud. Will Joshua triumph in his mission to unite the country? Will Aido get to prove her mettle? Anek is a heart-wrenching tale that examines what it means to be an Indian and what it takes to rise above the divides plaguing the country.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express Ayushmann Khurrana and the film stay woolly, being careful to stay in the middle of the while-on-the-one-side, but-also tightrope. Anubhav Sinha dips his toe into relatively unexplored territory, with mixed results. Rated: 2.5/5 May 27, 2022 Full Review Phuong Le Guardian The film might be didactic in tone, but it is the kind of didacticism that injects political integrity into a cinematic landscape sorely lacking a backbone. Rated: 4/5 May 25, 2022 Full Review Sukanya Verma Rediff.com Anubhav Sinha's outsider perspective of Northeast's identity politics and grass-root struggle doesn't go beyond an opportunity to identify itself as an ally of the under-represented. Rated: 2.5/5 May 29, 2022 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad Firstpost Considering the blatant Islamophobia raging across today’s India & the reality of politics in Kashmir, the decision to show a Kashmiri Muslim symbolising politicking by the Indian establishment in the troubled North-East is ironic, inexplicable, mindless. Rated: 2/5 May 29, 2022 Full Review Devesh Sharma Filmfare Watch the movie for all the ugly truths it explores and for the inspired acting of the ensemble cast. Rated: 3.5/5 May 27, 2022 Full Review Rahul Desai Film Companion The film buries itself under the privilege of having to explain – and accessorize – a decades-long conflict. Kishore D Lot of violence. Too many crimes lords. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/01/22 Full Review Vegas Vision This is one of the finest films from India that I have seen to date! The pace is amazing and the theme and message to all is universal. I could easily apply the symbolic figures to real life, not just in India, but in the entire world. A must see - and I am a great fan of films from India - this particular 'Bollywood' film is so much more intense and creates a great moral than what I've viewed from'Hollywood'. Please, make this an award winner - BEST FOREIGN FILM in my opinion. I was glued to my seat during the entire viewing! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/22 Full Review Rohit Waste of time and money. Such a bad movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/22 Full Review Basudev D Call it An-Ache Nek Insaan Ban na hay to Anek mat dekhna bhai. Ayushmans Careers Harakiri What is the movie about and what message did it wanted to give could not be decryppted even by the BitCoin Experts. What can go wrong when the Director has no vision but somehow wants to push his story thinking its going to be revolutionary is Anek in a Nuts-Hell Its a people pleaser just like Jhund was, and thats the reason it failed. The movie really has no story, Its a mishmash of emotions and Bad Script. The actors even though brilliant had little to do. Like Aamir khan did HaraKiri in Dhoom 3 with the mentally disabled character, Ayushman Does a La Snorting style in Anek which looks in a word Bad, The Hairdo and false beard with extra color wasnt needed. In a movie there are a few scenes which arent needed, but with Anek its more than Half of the movie which has unwanted scenes and again Bad Narrative. Sorry it cannot be PARDONED - because Ayushman do no stupid, Hes the intelligent actor , but this is a mistake he possibly overlooked. The part where the Boy sings amidst Rebels was unwanted , Tiger Sanga is Outstanding along with Manoj Pahwa who could be the movies saving grace. in the end theres a commando who shouts a la vicky kaushal type and fails. it cannot even be an inSomniacs Delight, its hard to sleep not noticing the bad acting that ayushmans characters been given. The scene in the end where two gangs are fighting looks immature. The gorl and the boxing part could had been put in another sports movie altogether. PS I was literally sleeping in the theatre throughout the movie (it doesn't mean I skipped the movie XD).... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Mahesh T A good movie showing mirror to all of us Indians who always boast around the world of having world's biggest democracy with diversity... Everyone should introspect and act... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/02/22 Full Review Audience Member Worst movie, didn't expect this from Ayush.
