Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald Anthropomorphism should be handled with care. When it reaches the Disney level, it becomes coloured by condescension -- which is the problem here. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 1, 2008 Full Review Simon Foster sbs.com.au Animals In Love is fatally lopsided and really only serves to fuel the skeptics' notion that the animal liberation argument is all heart and no head. Aug 9, 2010 Full Review Jason Di Rosso MovieTime, ABC Radio National Just think, if Travis Bickle had taken Cybill Shepherd's character in Taxi Driver to see this, instead of some porn flick depicting humans in love, they might well have hit it off. Dec 5, 2008 Full Review Margaret Pomeranz At the Movies (Australia) While a list of the animals portrayed is shown in the end credits it would have been nice to have a bit more insight into species and location while we're seeing them, particularly as the film lacks a strong narrative drive. Rated: 3/5 Dec 1, 2008 Full Review Louise Keller Urban Cinefile The images and subject matter are mesmerising, yet as a whole, the film feels fragmented . . . the cinematography is extraordinary so it is disappointing that the film as a whole is not more satisfying Nov 29, 2008 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij european-films.net The documentary Les animaux amoureux (Animals in Love) might seem cute on paper but lacks the rigour of recent documentary hits such as La marche de l'empereur (March of the Penguins) and Earth. Audience Member It is truly amazing, that regardless of the species the language of love is almost always the same. Fun to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member What an amazing film/documentary, showcasing all kinds of life forms through the stages of mating rituals, pregnancy and birth. Cinematography is breathtaking, such a wonderful piece of film demonstrating how life on Earth is pretty damn amazing if you stop to take a look. Only downer is I wish that they had named each animal (especially the birds), I was curious to know the species' names. Hardly any narration at all, but the music isn't over-bearing and it's just cool to listen to the different sounds of nature in it's rawest form Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Fortunately not a film about animals having sex, which would actually be a very short film given the brevity of the few bits of rumpy pumpy that we do see. A disproportionate amount of the footage here is of birds, but that makes sense since they are easily the most fascinating creatures when it comes to courting and wooing their mate. One is struck by how hard the male has to work to get a bit of action, although it has to be said that the females generally don't look that interested. This is all very easy to watch, and I'd give it more stars if I didn't feel I'd seen it all before on David Attenborough docos. That and the insipid narration that bookends the film is completely redundant. BTW, this has quickly become Molly's favourite film. She loves all the different animal noises. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member There are some pretty cool animals in this, particularly the birds. Not quite as eloquent as Microcosmos, but still well worth a gander. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Des animaux qui cruisent. Les oiseaux sont les plus drôles. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
