John Form (Ward Horton) thinks he's found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia (Annabelle Wallis) : a vintage doll in a beautiful white dress. However, the couple's delight doesn't last long: One terrible night, devil worshippers invade their home and launch a violent attack against the couple. When the cultists try to summon a demon, they smear a bloody rune on the nursery wall and drip blood on Mia's doll, thereby turning the former object of beauty into a conduit for ultimate evil.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Annabelle borrows unabashedly from better horror films, content to leave viewers with a string of cheap jolts that fail to build on the far more effective The Conjuring.

Richard Corliss TIME Magazine Quality is often irrelevant in a horror movie; shock is the key. Reymund S It was just mind blowing on the big screen! Annabelle is not to be missed!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Kat S Is the movie about the doll or the baby? I mean omg, the whole movie is about her pregnancy! Super boring and super annoying. The baby has more screen time than Annabelle! Poor excuse for a horror movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Hady D What movie It's not original enough. Yes, but it's still scary, let's admit it. This film made us jump at least. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review Comedy F With a creepy Fa La La La as annabelle's rythym during the night a growing up film series about her to leading to a house with the Warren's Very much another scary story to never watch during the night cause it make a child actor scream to death she was just a doll included in the conjuring before very terrifying to watch on YouTube there was just annabelle 2008 before this movie came as the final product with scary stuff, it's not bad but it's just not my favorite horror movie missed the older rotten tomatoes version of annabelle Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/06/25 Full Review Blu B It's really bad. The fact this follows as a spinoff related to arguably the greatest horror movie of the 2010's is an embrassment. The editing is terrible but my god the pacing is horrifcally bad. The first 45 minutes or so is sooooo boring and dragged out. This should take I don't know maybe 5-10 minutes to set up moving in and having the baby and some forboding. But it takes FOREVER...and than stuff just happens. The preist, meeting the bookstore lady, and the weird stuff that happens never in the slightest forms a story of some kind. It gets honestly incoherent. This feels like a 2.5 hour film and it just never gets better. It's not scary AT ALL....it's soooooo boring, and honestly half the time the scares are so badly done I laughed. The fact it fails so badly at scaring you with lazy cliches (Not necessarily jumpscares to it's credit) is so a major strike. The music is so boring as well and forgettable. Everything else is terrible. The doll isn't scary at all. I thought the doll was gonna come alive like Chucky but no. They try to make this doll scary and it's so stupid. It does freakin nothing. The husband and wife here are so forgettable, have no character, and are as much cardboard cutouts like the Bill Murray Garfield movie Jon & Liz. They are so boring and we spend soooooo much time just having them meander around in the house. Evelyn also man her dialouge is terrible and so unnatural. And her and the preist basically are just plot expose tools. And when she jumps out the window man it's laughable how it comes out of nowhere. It's dull to look at also. This has nothing going for it at all and is the major reason why this is such a freakin slog to get through. Skip this completely. Absolutely unacceptable for the franchise to have something THIS weak. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/25 Full Review Oliver L Scary. Ok plot but definitely not that good.
