The Annabelle trilogy comes to in end in Annabelle Comes Home. While babysitting Judy Warren, Mary Ellen and her friend unwittingly release the Annabelle doll from its confines in the Warren's artifact room, along with several other cursed objects, which then proceed to attack the girls. Despite the title, the film isn't really about Annabelle; as she's only one of several cursed objects that have to be overcome. Still, the writers come up with some rather creative and frightening demonic spirits. And, they do a good job at building suspense and tension. Yet it holds back on the blood and violence, not really earning its R rating. Annabelle Comes Home is one of the weaker entries in the series, but it still delivers some good scares.

I was a little less worried about a third Annabelle movie than I was the second one, because, well this came off the back of that second one, and that second one was okay. But that second one came off the back of the first Annabelle movie... And that was a fucking disaster. Lots of people say that the whole Conjuring franchise is a cool thing, but nothing has come close to the quality of that first The Conjuring movie. Respectfully, I disagree. The franchise as a whole is okay, but not only is has something better come out post-The Conjuring, furthermore, I'm gonna go ahead and say that the first Conjuring movie isn't even really that good. The only entry I've given a favourable review ("favourable" here meaning "more than a 5 outta 10") iissss *dramatic pause* THIS O- no I'm kidding it's Conjuring 2. Conjuring 2 is the good one and everything else ranges from "alright" to "dumpster fire", and the first Annabelle is firmly at the bottom of that dumpster fire. What's the next best entry? The crème de la compètènt? It's... Oh my God I think it actually is this one... You guys is Annabelle Comes Home the closes thing we've got to a second good movie? ...Fuck... I'm pretty sure it is.

I think this third Annabelle movie was trying to keep the cycle of Conjuverse going, and somehow, it successfully did. The attention to detail through design, the cinematography, and the film score makes the movie look and feels very much retro, and the effort with it, is paid-off. It also emphasize the theme about facing-your-fears, the compassion of friendship, and the subtle message of obidience. However, this sort of emphasis makes the natural essence of turmoil within the movie's concept blurry, unheavy and inconsequential. The most things it failed to do is to keep the viewers' engagement with the characters. Some of these characters is lacking strong qualities of dimention in their traits. Instead of focusing on giving the story a dept altogether with much darker themes and combining it with the feeling of helplessness and isolation that includes interesting character arcs; the movie suffers from focusing on too much cheap scares (as expected), and it's getting way too rusty at this point – for short, it is not scary. It did not deliver the scare factor, and if it did, the execution is not strong enough. Imagine a war without any explosion, no damage dealt, and no one have gotten into a serious war shock after the climatic commotions – this is how I felt watching this movie. In this third Annabelle movie's case, the potential of its story is wasted because of continuous cheap scare-centric. But the question is, is Annabelle Comes Home a waste of time? No. Quite frankly, it is entertaining on the first watch. First watch only tho.

The Conjuring films are some of the best mainstream Horror flicks to come out over the last decade. They aren't the standard for the genre by any means, but I'll always remember them very fondly. When Warner Bros. first announced that they were dipping their toes in spin-offs and prequels, I found myself scratching my head, and the first Annabelle film felt like the nail in the coffin for the franchise. Suddenly, Annabelle: Creation hit theatres and actually surprised many viewers, including me. For that alone, I was interested in this third instalment, seeing as they won me over with its predecessor. Annabelle Comes Home isn't worth seeing in theatres, but I wouldn't recommend completely dismissing it if you're a fan of this series.  Taking place after Annabelle: Creation, but before The Conjuring, the timeline of these films have begun to feel a little messy. This film picks up with familiar characters to the franchise in Ed and Lorraine Warren, as they discover the Annabelle doll. Once locked up in their cellar, their daughter's babysitter and her friend all find themselves being haunted in mysterious ways. While there are some creepy moments, this movie doesn't feel like an Annabelle film all that often. I would guess that the doll itself received about 10–20 minutes of screentime in a 105-minute film.  Where I feel this franchise has had the most success is actually in it's developed characters. It was nice to see Ed and Lorraine on-screen together again, and although there are a few great dramatic elements sprinkled throughout this movie, Annabelle Comes Home almost takes advantage of that too often. Yes, there are scary aspects to this film, but I found myself seeing it as more of a drama than a Horror film, which worked but also felt conflicting at the same time.  Being a solid screenwriter for Horror, Gary Dauberman takes the helm as director on his first feature film and I would say that is actually one of the best aspects of Annabelle Comes Home. From some great imagery to overall terrifc cinematography overall, this is a movie that definitely looks the part. With that said, it pails in comparison to the rest of the movie. The look and tone of the movie are weighed down by a dramatic story that only wishes to focus on the drama of this universe.  In the end, Annabelle Comes Home isn't as impressive as Annabelle: Creation or either one of the Conjuring movies, but is eons better than the first Annabelle and The Nun, is that says anything. This is a very average movie as a whole and doesn't really state a purpose for existing, other than having some good family drama with the family we have come to love in this franchise since the beginning. For Horror fans, you'll probably be disappointed, but for those just looking to see a decent movie, you may find yourself slightly satisfied.
