      Critics Consensus

Lacking enough depth to fulfill its evident ambitions or enough excitement to work as a sci-fi action thriller, Anon lives down to its title in the most glumly predictable ways.

Michael F It's an intriguing movie, though a bit hard to follow unless you are really committed to paying full attention. One thing that bothered me while trying to "buy in" to the whole premise is why regular video/security camera technology doesn't appear to exist in this world, and why the only recordings of anyone or anything is solely available by hacking into a humans memory/visions. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Kandy A I quickly gave up. Bleak movie, poor story line, just not worth the time to finish watching. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/28/23 Full Review A G I was highly engaged. I found this film stylish and gripping. MAYBE one of the best i have seen. I can NOT believe the bad reviews.... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/22/23 Full Review Tim O I really like this movie. It evokes thoughts of movies like Equilibrium. It's not a fast-paced movie, but it's not exactly slow. Imagine having a futuristic access to memories and then having them deleted slowly without the ability to stop it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/23 Full Review Sheldon T This could have been an magnificent movie. It's built around an excellent concept, and the visuals are slick, yet appropriate for the feel that the movie creates. Unfortunately, the whole experience is undermined by cookie cutter characters. A guilt ridden and divorced protagonist... A beautiful but callous and ruthless antagonist, who's actually a victim... The true antagonist, that I guessed correctly within 5 seconds of their appearance. When I was proven right, I stopped watching because of overwhelming disappointment. The writer(s) (I'm not bothering to check who) assume we're all idiots. This is the final straw. I'm cancelling Netflix. I can have my average intelligence insulted without paying for it. Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The tone-deaf execution of the film - all flat-line delivery and awkward pauses - rather undermines the intelligence of the premise. Rated: 2/5 May 13, 2018 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times All we're missing is a story worth caring about. Rated: 2/5 May 11, 2018 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Ends up like an episode of Black Mirror without the jokes. Or much of the drama. Rated: 2/5 May 10, 2018 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Neat ideas aside, the antiseptic quality of Anon, including predictable plot machinations, leaves the experience emotionally vacant. Rated: 2/4 Mar 14, 2022 Full Review Javier Ocaña El Pais (Spain) The weariness before the characters and the lack of concretion beat the notes of wit. [Full Review in Spanish] May 1, 2020 Full Review Tom McAdam One Room With A View Anon is one of those films where you imagine that the writer sat around thinking about how cool and edgy his script was, completely missing the fact that the story jumps around from scene to scene with very little cohesion or sense.
