Which means it is really a thriller about people. Secrets don't hurt you. People do. Rena Sofer gives the film its center. She brings intelligence to the danger and vulnerability to the confidence. You believe she can handle what is coming. You also believe she may have no idea what is coming. The writing is sharp. The twists are clever without feeling like somebody is reaching into a hat for another rabbit. The film keeps moving the pieces, and every time you think you understand the game, you discover there was another game underneath it. Then the cracks start showing and pretty soon, you’re wondering who’s telling the truth and who’s hiding something. Rena Sofer is terrific, bringing a real mix of strength, vulnerability, and unease to the role. Kraig Wenman’s screenplay is intense but thoughtful, building the tension around the characters rather than just piling on twists.
