Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) It’s a movie made for the Instagram set. But it could be worse, at least it’s not made for TikTokers. Rated: 2.5/5 May 27, 2025 Full Review Kyle Logan Chicago Reader Another Simple Favor essentially plays out the shift from art to “content” in real time, but there is still a little art here. May 9, 2025 Full Review Christina Tucker Autostraddle All in all, it’s a mostly fun time (that one scene notwithstanding) and the costumes are honestly worth the price of admission, along with the stunning shots of Capri’s landscape and narrow streets. May 8, 2025 Full Review Matthew Jacobs The Daily Beast Feig said Another Simple Favor is the first sequel he’s made because sequels so rarely work. This one doesn’t prove him wrong. At the same time, it’s an amusing enough diversion that makes sense as a Prime Video release. Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Rob Hunter ScreenAnarchy Grounded characters are gone, and we're left with caricature. The issue is due as much to the script and direction as it is the two lead performances, as neither Kendrick nor Lively seem to be all that interested in putting the effort in here. Jun 3, 2025 Full Review Lauren Veneziani WBAL-TV (Baltimore) A complete and utter mess that somehow does a disservice to the original film, which was incredible and should have been left alone! I was so disappointed. Rated: 2/5 Jun 3, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

D P I'm glad I got to see it for free. The first one was corny. What was anyone expecting from a sequel? A corny original and a corny sequel. If they do a third one, that one will be triple corny. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Alan W While the 2018 original has the advantage of a decent source material in Darcey Bell's novel, this belated sequel requires original screenwriter Jessica Sharzer (and new co-writer Laeta Kalogridis) to conjure something out of the rather definitive ending we already had from before and the result is, inevitably, a forced and contrived extension which I didn't buy for one minute. The new film now sees Anna Kendrick's minor social media celebrity/author, living off the 5 minutes of fame she got after breaking the case we watched in the last film, reluctantly reuniting with Blake Lively's Emily with an invite to her destination wedding in Capri to a mobster boss. I won't divulge why this makes no sense in case it's considered a spoiler for the original's twisty ending but it's ludicrous, and the filmmakers know it, acknowledge it in semi-self-deprecating dialogue, and then conveniently sweeps it under the carpet by dazzling us with an idyllic Capri tourist board promotional video directed by Paul Feig as if he's channelling Hitchcock, Henry Golding's bare bum and Lively decked out in haut couture and comically enormous hats. Inexplicably, the film begins rather unengagingly, despite Kendrick being a deft hand as a comedic actress and Lively playing up her menacing but mysterious role. The third act reveals are nonsensically bonkers but I'd have just about got onboard with them had the film not lean so hard into comedic farce and dumb tropes that I find neither clever nor funny. There's a good cast and a half decent plot somwhere here but they are wasted in this disappointingly flabby and laboured film that perhaps would've been better served if it's just another collaboration from the same team instead of trying this hard to make it the unnecessary sequel no one is asking for. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/16/25 Full Review Wayne K A Simple Favour was one of my favourite films of 2018; well written, brilliantly acted and constantly intriguing. It seemed to be a one-and-done scenario, but we all know how much the film industry loves easy money, and few things are as, ahem, simple to sell as a sequel. To be fair, the idea of Stephanie carrying on with her detective interests and making it something of a career is a very believable progression, and with the amount of fun the first one likely was to make, I can see why they’d want to do it again. The follow up reunites Kendricks, Livley and, to a lesser extent, Golding, who does make the most of his limited time on screen. The mystery is less interesting this time round, and the extent to which the film red herrings is an indicator of how much less compelling it is. Rather than being given the clues to solve the mystery ourselves, the film leans so heavily on elements that we couldn’t possibly have guessed, with characters that were never important showing up and somehow being responsible for all the onscreen events. The movie does make good use of the beautiful island location, and it make more sense in terms of being unable to escape at a moments notice. The film is an example of how hard it is to catch lightning in a bottle twice. It’s a fun film to watch, but I can’t think of anything it does better than its predecessor. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/25 Full Review sarah G Feels like a major favor having to watch this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/11/25 Full Review Michelle C I thought the original film was good but THIS was NOT! Here is your official warning to SKIP IT at all costs! YIKES! One of the WORST movies I’ve seen. It was all trying a bit too hard, and nothing was landing - from the ridiculous costumes, to the terrible plot, crude language and bad dialogue. The only decent thing about it was Kendrick’s performance and the views of Capri… Don’t waste your time on this garbage and pray that they don’t attempt to make another one of these! This deserves a class action suit for audiences. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/10/25 Full Review Hailey R One of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time. The plot is unbearably corny and cringeworthy — I had to pause it several times just to process how ridiculous it was. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/10/25 Full Review Read all reviews
