Peter Howell Toronto Star Using archival and recent footage, Jacquet tracks the work of pioneering polar scientist Claude Lorius, a climate change verifier whose astounding discoveries should silence all deniers. Rated: 3/4 Mar 10, 2017 Full Review Scott Marks San Diego Reader A biographical, cinematic corollary of Al Gore's canned Learning Annex lecture, Luc Jacquet's Antarctica condenses 22 polar missions - all told, they consumed ten years of Lorius's life - into one visually breathtaking documentary. Rated: 3/5 Feb 16, 2017 Full Review Leah Pickett Chicago Reader Director Luc Jacquet struggles to dredge up the sort of emotion he delivered so easily in his Oscar-winning March of the Penguins (2005). Jan 26, 2017 Full Review Matthew Anderson CineVue Ice and the Sky feels increasingly formulaic in structure; however, it remains a thorough and fitting tribute to an extraordinarily dedicated and humble individual with an "incontestable message." Rated: 3/5 Apr 8, 2019 Full Review James Plath Family Home Theater There's no denying that the work Lorius does is fascinating science, unless you're a U.S. politician who denounces anything that gets in the way of the economy. But it's not very compelling as drama. Rated: C+ Jan 16, 2018 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Amid some structural deficiencies, the result is both persuasive and visually striking. Audience Member This is one of my new go-to movies. It's gets funnier every time I see it. What a great ensemble cast, too. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member 4 1/2 Stars. Incredibly beautiful documentary about the scientist who made the connection between man and climate change. A very engaging story about the human will and the lengths and sacrifices humans go through in the name of science and good old fashioned discovery. Seeing this after the injustice being done to science in America recently, really hurts to watch this man fight for such a near lost cause that is humanity. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member 7/19/17 Amazon Prime A beautifully told story of a scientist who devoted his life to try to determine the changes in earths atmosphere over millions of years. It is difficult to believe there are still climate change deniers when you see films like this. The photography is amazing and the fact the story was told in pictures and narration over a 50 year period made it more enjoyable and believable. Hooray for men like Claude Lorius. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Engaging and beautiful chronicle of an important scientist. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
