Hands-down, one of the best pictures of all time. Stellar directing by Tzavellas, and some of the most raw talent ever to hit the silver screen. I could gush all day about the gifted Irene Papas, a master of her craft in one of her early roles here. Go see it. It's awesome.

Classic in every possible sense of the word. Irene Papas shines in a tremendous role, despite its short appereance on screen. All of the significant references to ancient Greek mythology are dropped out (so not even Javellas was someone capable to place Sophocles' chorus in the epic way it deserved), but instead we get top notch melodrama in its unsurpassable 'Greek tragedy' tradition.

Slightly stilted adaptation of the Greek classic here. The makeup is ridiculous, and there's a tiny bit of sloppy filmmaking here, but it's still Antigone, the story shines through. Irene Papas makes for a smoking title character, but aside from that, a bit of a odd curio.

Irene Pappas carries the day here and the whole movie pretty much relies on her acting. The speech come out kind of awkward and the acting is a bit antiquated, filled with strange movements and gesturing and over-the-top responses... perfectly suited for classical Greek tragedy theater.
If your looking for a good adaptation, this is the place. The scenery is too much like the old 'sandal-and-sword' representation of the Greco-Roman world, full of trumpets, fake beards and shaky camera and deigns meant to imitate something between... Crete's Minoran Knossos and... something else... but whatever, it was emotionally powerful, particularly Irene's parts.

Pretty good adaptation of the Sophocles Greek tragedy beautifully acted by an all Greek cast. The version I saw had English subtitles and running time was 1 hour, 22 min.
