Four years ago, DAmato's (Al Pacino) Miami Sharks were at the top. Now, his team is struggling with three consecutive losses, sliding attendance, and aging heroes, particularly 39-year-old quarterback Jack Cap Rooney (Dennis Quaid). Off the field, DAmato is struggling with a failed marriage and estranged children, and is on a collision course with Christina Pagniacci (Cameron Diaz), the young president/co-owner of the Sharks organization.

Sometimes entertaining, but overall Any Given Sunday is a disappointment coming from Oliver Stone.

Stone's blend of mayhem and sensuality-which doesn't shy away from the eroticism of athletes-is a refreshing alternative to the solemnity of most sports dramas. Go to Full Review

Almost three hours of this jitter deteriorates from bravura filmmaking to annoying mannerism, and Any Given Sunday ends up less than the sum of its many, often interesting parts. Go to Full Review

Daryl D @DmacVisuals 1d Steamin Beamin music video! See more Daniel S Nov 22 A Calm Documentary About Totally Stable Men It is peak Oliver Stone energy, loud, intense, and straight-up addictive. From the jump, it delivers pure sports-movie spectacle that keeps even casual viewers locked in. Yeah, it plays with familiar football clichés, but the raw passion poured in by Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid, and LL Cool J levels everything up. Their performances go hard, pushing the film beyond basic locker-room drama into something that feels fierce and emotionally charged. Even with its long runtime dragging a bit, the movie still holds strong as a top-tier escape packed with adrenaline, ego, and gritty realism. Stone blends ambition, chaos, and testosterone-fueled tension into a wild ride that feels both over-the-top and oddly powerful. There’s even an infamous locker room confrontation that’s become legendary for its shock value and boldness - the kind of scene you don’t forget anytime soon. In the end, Any Given Sunday isn’t just about football, it’s about power, pride, pressure, and the brutal cost of chasing glory. Fast, ferocious, and messy in the best way, it’s a sports drama that hits hard and doesn’t apologize for it. See more Maddox G. @maddoxblade Aug 21 Absolutely spectacular sports drama that is rare compared to the other popular sports movies, most of which are comedies. This shows the surreality of a young quarterback replacing an older quarterback and the drama and the intricate dynamics in running a football franchise. See more Mike b Aug 19 If you’ve come for Pacinos speech at the end fine, but the rest of this on revisiting years after my first watch is a narrative mess. There are some reasonable performances turned in but the characters all have the character drive of a coked up after party. Character development is a flip of a coin in any given scene until the inevitable “now we learn how to win together moments”. It’s thrown about with cliche drugs and violence with no respect to the realism of the sport. The most credit you can give it is drawing attention to concussions before the NFL ever did. If you want some popcorn with handheld camera work that’s both shaken and stirred, enjoy yourself. But I’d recommend this one as a background film at a tailgater at best. See more Matt O May 22 “Loud, wild, and full of moments” – 3.5/5 Any Given Sunday throws everything at the screen, big speeches, hard hits, locker room drama, egos clashing, and honestly, a lot of it works. It’s intense and gritty, with some unforgettable scenes and one of the most fired-up locker room speeches in movie history. The football action is chaotic but exciting, and the cast is stacked; Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, Cameron Diaz, and more. Everyone brings something to the table. That said, the movie can feel a little all over the place at times. It’s long, it’s loud, and it definitely tries to do a little too much. Still, for a football fan, it’s worth the ride. It’s messy, but in a way that kinda fits the world it’s showing. Not perfect, but definitely entertaining. See more Doug R Mar 28 I am surprised by the poor ratings from both professional critics and viewers, and agree with one of the positive critics that this by far the best football movie ever. It is not the typical rah rah sports movie by any means. Rather, it captures the entire NFL experience and culture perfectly - including all the good, the bad, and the ugly - which is why the NFL was very unhappy with it. The cast is star-studded, including some high profile ex-players (Jim Brown, Lawrence Taylor), and the performances are all fabulous. The strained relationships between Al Pacino (head coach) Cameron Diaz (team owner), and Jamie Fox (new upstart quarterback) are masterfully developed. Similar to Oliver Stone’s “JFK” this movie presents the viewer with a firehose of characters and scenes, but all are cohesive and coherent, and the surprise ending, revealed during the movie credits, ties it all up perfectly. Highly recommended!! See more Read all reviews
