What to Know

Critics Consensus

Apartment 7A is slickly assembled and solidly acted, but the lingering memory of Rosemary's Baby and a predictable prequel template make for a sub(par)lease.

Alan H Great 1960s setting and soundtrack. Slightly stale storyline but amazing performances and interesting dance sequences. Loved the ending and how it connects to Rosemary's Baby. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review James M Wiest does an excellent job at channeling Ruth Gordon, but I found the movie to be dull and slow. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Al P Was good but then.... It ended? And nothing came of it... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/05/24 Full Review Christian C Julia Garner & Dianne Wiest give such strong performances that they carry the Mild story through to the finish line convincingly. Julia Garners ability to Morph a character with such stunning ease is quickly catapulting her as the torch bearer then eventual succesor to Meryl Streep 'The god of caharacter portrayals' A solid watch on an Overcloud day. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/03/24 Full Review Hugo S New York, 1965. After an injury, an aspiring dancer struggles to succeed in the auditions for a new role. She meets a mysterious wealthy couple who helps her fulfil all of her ambitions. However, this abundant kindness comes with a horrifying price as the girl sees herself captured by a satanic cult with dark plans. "Apartment 7A" is a decent and enjoyable prequel to the classic "Rosemary's Baby". Set in an eerie apartment block, the movie focuses on the suffering of its main protagonist as she loses control over her body and soul. The internal dynamics of the cult are a secondary aspect of the story. A religious horror movie that finds its own space as a worthy standalone narrative for the younger generations who are not familiar with Polanski's masterpiece. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Todd B This was fascinating from the perspective of someone who is very familiar with the film it is based on. The attention to detail in recreating the same sets is amazing. There were some liberties taken with the story WRT how Terry's story was presented in Rosemary's Baby but I didn't mind them, especially. Dianne Wiest was great as Minnie, and rather than trying to imitate Ruth Gordon's performance she made the role her own. I really think you have to be a big Rosemary's Baby fan to truly appreciate this, though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
