What to Know

Critics Consensus

Benefitting from astonishing Australian locations and Charlize Theron's raw athleticism while skimping on the finer details, Apex doesn't mark the zenith of survival thrillers but makes for a solid entry.

A fun watch, but it's hard to imagine people returning for a second viewing. It’s an efficient, effective horror movie about the limits of the human body. But it’s almost entirely experiential and in-the-moment, with no deeper levels to unpack or explore. Go to Full Review

Charlize Theron gives everything she’s got to a survival thriller right out of the cliché spin cycle, but there’s no contest when she pits herself against a raging Mother Nature and Taron Egerton’s psycho cannibal killer. They never had a chance. Go to Full Review

It is thrillingly made -- lean and mean. Go to Full Review

Its aim is to deliver two hours of tension, spectacular scenery, and an action star in top form. And when Charlize Theron is in top form, that's more than enough. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The last act contains some of the film’s biggest surprises and departures from expectation, which makes Apex, if not exactly original, at least a particularly potent assemblage of familiar pieces. Go to Full Review
Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Jun 26, 2026
Even though it follows a familiar formula, "Apex" is an unpretentious, bare-bones affair that wisely focuses on Theron’s physical performance and the mercilessness of the beautiful but unforgiving landscape. Go to Full Review

Aly G @Aly13G 3 days ago When the thrill of adventure meets real life danger… the premise is good and the cinematography is excellent. The thrill was to the roof. It’s such an abominable experience to watch such masochistic and cannibal person playing a life and death game. See more Benjamin W @Code70 Sep 4, 2026 Another perfectly fine Netflix streaming movie. It’s entertaining enough. It does the job well enough. Charlize Theron, while not like, giving an unbelievable performance, is good, and acting-wise, Taron Edgerton is the standout as this psychopathic cannibal serial killer. And it’s gnarly enough and has some fun enough action to recommend for people who like this sort of movie. It just, you know, doesn’t offer anything beyond that. Isn’t any better than that. It’s just a decent little thriller, with a couple of solid leads. Like a lot of the streaming movie, it’s just about enough, without being legitimately good. See more dennis V @RT08227866 Aug 31, 2026 good story, very nice cinematography. good mix between action and nice scenery. well acted See more andrea C @Charst Aug 31, 2026 Interessante survival movie 1 vs 1 dalle ambientazioni esotiche e reso più virtuoso senza dubbio dalle performance dei due protagonisti; in special modo quella di Taron Edgerton ormai attore di riconosciuto talento in grado di rappresentare davvero molto bene il suo personaggio. See more Ola G @Ollie1972 Aug 30, 2026 Yet another klichéridden survival thriller that more or less just focus on the survival action sequences and forget that a script should maybe be a bit longer than half of an A4 page. Director Baltasar Kormákur has a true mixed bag of films on his CV, but he knows how to use the full potential of the environments and breathtaking climbing sequences as he does in "Apex". Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton go all in with their respective roles, but the character development is wishy washy and you feel nothing really for Sasha during the cat and mouse game with Ben. My absolute and only favourite part of the film is the usage of The Chemical Brothers excellent track "Go". See more Vannessa B @RT46778913 Aug 30, 2026 This is a good movie I enjoyed it!! Keeps you on your toes and it plays out beautifully at the end!! Definitely worth the watch See more Read all reviews
