What to Know

Critics Consensus

Benefitting from astonishing Australian locations and Charlize Theron's raw athleticism while skimping on the finer details, Apex doesn't mark the zenith of survival thrillers but makes for a solid entry.

A fun watch, but it's hard to imagine people returning for a second viewing. It’s an efficient, effective horror movie about the limits of the human body. But it’s almost entirely experiential and in-the-moment, with no deeper levels to unpack or explore. Go to Full Review

Charlize Theron gives everything she’s got to a survival thriller right out of the cliché spin cycle, but there’s no contest when she pits herself against a raging Mother Nature and Taron Egerton’s psycho cannibal killer. They never had a chance. Go to Full Review

It is thrillingly made -- lean and mean. Go to Full Review

What truly holds the entire piece together, though, is the sheer physicality of Charlize Theron, whose absolute commitment to performing her own insane stunts is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Go to Full Review

Bri E. @cowgirlbee 1h Unfortunately you could guess the plot of Apex from our protagonist’s first encounter with a “good man”. It felt cheesy, stale, and not suspenseful enough for a suspense film. I did enjoy the cinematography and the acting wasn’t the worse. See more Noah T. @bignoknow 2h Awesome movie. Don’t mind the community score. Tense, well acted, and masterfully crafted. See more Chuck H. @biggCHEEZE 4h Aussie movies just feel different. Edgerton was creepy. Theron is Theron through out. Story felt like a true story vibe. See more Dan S. @Dawgzfan 1d Descent thriller. Glad they didn't try to stretch this any longer just to fill screen time. Worth the watch. See more S. O @Col._Angus 2d Big Trouble In Little China was more believable See more Ramith N @RT13906579 2d Apex is hands down the most breathtakingly beautiful movie I have watched in years! The story is awesome—it starts as an intense, emotional survival thriller and turns into a non-stop, edge-of-your-seat ride. Visually, the cinematography is completely out of this world. The Australian landscapes and the lush green forests are captured with such incredible detail that the wilderness feels like a character itself. But the absolute highlight of the film is Taron Egerton. His acting is 100% Oscar-worthy; he plays a chilling, unpredictable villain with a terrifying magnetism that commands the entire screen. Paired with a beautiful, haunting musical score that perfectly drives the tension, this movie is an absolute masterpiece. See it on the biggest screen possible! See more Read all reviews
