Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times At heart, it’s about a vulnerable man at a unique moment in time and how his past has prepared him — or perhaps not. And we are definitely good for experiencing this singular artist up close. Oct 6, 2025 Full Review Matt Zoller Seitz RogerEbert.com Oddly, however, this movie, directed by Steven Feinartz, can’t quite break through Marc Maron’s tortoise-like carapace. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 3, 2025 Full Review Katie Rife IndieWire In “Are We Good?,” even the confessional segments have an undercurrent of resistance to them -- an interesting dynamic, but one that this filmmaker doesn’t know what to do with. Rated: B- Oct 3, 2025 Full Review Aaron Neuwirth We Live Entertainment Having this documentary accompany all that is rather fitting, as it highlights what makes Maron stand out among his peers. Rated: 7/10 Oct 16, 2025 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net Perhaps accidentally, Feinartz captures an elusive moment where Maron's armor cracks, and even if it feels sappy and hackneyed, it earns an answer to the grumpy sign-off that serves as the documentary's name. Rated: 3/5 Oct 13, 2025 Full Review Marko Djurdjić Exclaim! Are We Good? doesn't romanticize losing a partner. It doesn't turn loss into some transcendental or cathartic experience, or pretend that it offers some teachable lesson. There's no moral behind it — that would be the Hollywood version. Kenneth G I love Marc Maron, but this documentary was a little flat, and too wedded to his grief in a way most fans know he has moved past. Felt dated. e.g. I like that he threw a 60th birthday party for himself... and seemed joyful then, but this doc seemed wedded to a downbeat ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review dal Excellent storytelling, poignant. I love Marc Maron but my husband is not a listener and he also loved it. A well told human tale. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review Annette H it’s Marc, it’s just him, going through it, real Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review Melody M One of the best docs I’ve seen. Very raw, very honest. Very Marc. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/08/25 Full Review Olivia Sad, sweet, sad it once at Tribeca and loved it for the second time :) sad that Maron didn’t show up for the Q & A. Amazing movie tho Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Aye E I can imagine putting together this footage to make a coherent story would be tricky. But I found it narratively inconsistent. It was at least 5-10 minutes too long. I know enough about Maron to see the holes, and am not sure if you don't know much about him if it would make sense. It's unclear the range of time this covers. It jumped around oddly. They handled the audio recordings well, with the use of black screen. The only time there was animation, it portrayed guests in the garage, oddly most of those particular guests weren't interviewed in the garage. There was a touch of cheap looking AI, a photo with some fake wind added. There are some really fantastic and touching moments in the doc, and some good interviews, but overall it felt like a compilation of behind the scenes footage of a behind the scenes story. Like extra footage from another complete story that we didn't get to see. Or a rough cut of something in development. My favorite was the trailer of this doc, the music and the editing were perfect. Too bad that didn't carry over to the doc itself. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
