At heart, it’s about a vulnerable man at a unique moment in time and how his past has prepared him — or perhaps not. And we are definitely good for experiencing this singular artist up close. Go to Full Review

Oddly, however, this movie, directed by Steven Feinartz, can’t quite break through Marc Maron’s tortoise-like carapace. Go to Full Review

In “Are We Good?,” even the confessional segments have an undercurrent of resistance to them -- an interesting dynamic, but one that this filmmaker doesn’t know what to do with. Go to Full Review

Fans of Maron will get the most out of this, even if they may be left wanting a more in-depth retrospective of his life and career. He’s still going though, so that may be further down the line. Go to Full Review

[Are We Good?] mirrors the New Jersey-born comedians’ own relentless inner pursuit to happiness. It, too, is raw and honest. Go to Full Review

Kenneth G Oct 9 I love Marc Maron, but this documentary was a little flat, and too wedded to his grief in a way most fans know he has moved past. Felt dated. e.g. I like that he threw a 60th birthday party for himself... and seemed joyful then, but this doc seemed wedded to a downbeat ending. See more Olivia Oct 4 Sad, sweet, sad it once at Tribeca and loved it for the second time :) sad that Maron didn’t show up for the Q & A. Amazing movie tho See more Aye E Oct 10 I can imagine putting together this footage to make a coherent story would be tricky. But I found it narratively inconsistent. It was at least 5-10 minutes too long. I know enough about Maron to see the holes, and am not sure if you don't know much about him if it would make sense. It's unclear the range of time this covers. It jumped around oddly. They handled the audio recordings well, with the use of black screen. The only time there was animation, it portrayed guests in the garage, oddly most of those particular guests weren't interviewed in the garage. There was a touch of cheap looking AI, a photo with some fake wind added. There are some really fantastic and touching moments in the doc, and some good interviews, but overall it felt like a compilation of behind the scenes footage of a behind the scenes story. Like extra footage from another complete story that we didn't get to see. Or a rough cut of something in development. My favorite was the trailer of this doc, the music and the editing were perfect. Too bad that didn't carry over to the doc itself. See more Read all reviews
