The idea of a secret fighting arena that ends in death run by Jackson isn't the freshest idea - but poor scenes and shallow character development didn't help either. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Psychological, brutal, suspenseful and leaves a lot to think about ... Do we as humans have an influence on what happens in our lives and how we react to it, or have we no control over our instincts and we will do anything in order to survive? In my opiniom "DEATH GAMES" is an interpretation of Wars that happen around the world: Palestine/ Syria... God, Imagine, if evey single soldier who goes off to war from both sides eventually chose not to kill anymore, drop their weapons and gave each other a hug like they are Brothers and Sisters? The illuminati empire would collapse and love would finally free us from evil. I know this day will come and it will come soon. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the worst movies I felt compelled to watch bc it was sooo bad, worse than battlestar gallactica lol Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Arena is an action movie from 2011 and it stars Samuel L. Jackson, James Ramer and some unknown actors I don't care for. Movies were the main protagonist or a group of people are forced to fight to the death like "The Running Man" and "Battle Royale" are what I call "contest films", however unlike the aforementioned films, "Arena" is not as entertaining, in fact the only entertaining aspect is the acting, especially Samuel L. Jackson, who always dishes out a great performance in whatever role he plays. The concept of forcing people to fight to the death in movies is a rather pretentious and over used trope that can be use to great effect, providing the filmmakers know what they are doing and one aspect that needs to be done well are the fight scenes and the fight scenes in Arena, while bloody and very violent, it lacks creativity. Sure some of the fights are in slow motion a la Zack Snyder and the there are a few scenes where characters are decapitated, it was nothing to write home about. In conclusion, Arena is a generic contest film that doesn't bring bring a lot to the table. I knew this movie was going to be bad, but I also thought that maybe the fight scenes might be fun to watch but unfortunately it disappointed me.
