Sean L. McCarthy Decider Once you get past the surface-level obvious transgressions, you may find that Shaffir also offers some refreshing perspectives that his counterparts don’t always take the time to turn up. Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Jonathon Wilson Ready Steady Cut There’s an absurdist quality to it, a ring of – perhaps uncomfortable – truth, and it’s a good excuse to touch on a lot of different areas in a way that doesn’t feel overly scattershot. Michael D A solid special, a few uncomfortable moments but overall the jokes have layers which is alot more than what most specials are doing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Kim W Hilarious! Ari’s best special yet. Loved the stage design too Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review Edward O Ari’s the man! Very funny and awesome set! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Simone P WOW was this BAD!! The only thing that offensive here was Ari doing the bare minimum and expecting laughs. Lazy, unthoughtful, and apparently desperate to cause "controversy". If only. You could see the punchlines coming from miles away, and he said absolutely nothing new. I've enjoyed his material and delivery before, but he really missed the mark here. If he was a friend riffing like this, I'd allow that everyone has an off night. But this was written and filmed! What a wasted opportunity. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Leando D The set starts off like many other Ari routines - which I've found very entertaining in the past. Then the jokes show how lazy they are...akin to reading "news articles" written about something somebody read on a Reddit thread. It's so lazy I have to question if some of it is actually just egregious story stealing (ironic as it's coming from Ari this time). In particular, his "autistic kid plays basketball" joke was clearly just a play by play of an episode of "The Boondocks" where Riley is the star player of the Ballahollics and gets schooled at the end of the game by the autistic kid who's never left the bench, and NOT the Internet video that inspired it (calculating the shots on his fingers, raining 3 after 3...just watch the scene and you'll know what I'm talking about). I really don't believe Ari wouldn't have known about this, he watches Adult Swim and even referenced watching Rick and Morty in this special. The Boondocks is on right after and they definitely show the Ballaholics clip as a preview occasionally because it's a classic episode. To somebody that has seen that, the joke is basically like if you were to tell somebody who watches The Office about the time you saw someone drop their famous chilli on the floor of your paper company and fell in it. By "not reading the news anymore" he's merely revealing hes freed himself of any and all forms of criticism, which usually tends to hurt someone's craft. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Brad D Just feels like he's trying to be edgy for the sake of being edgy. Every joke just seems extremely surface level and adds no real perspective or punchline. Comedy is subjective however this just seems so mediocre in terms of subjects, stage presence and overall flow of the show. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Read all reviews
