What starts with a potentially interesting premise quickly turns into a messy and directionless story that feels like it is constantly trying to find its footing but never actually does. The plot centers around a kidnapping that spirals out of control, but instead of building tension or leaning into its dark humor, the film drifts without a clear trajectory. Scenes feel thrown together, and the story lacks the structure needed to keep the audience engaged. The screenplay is the biggest issue. It feels underdeveloped, with ideas that never fully connect or evolve into something meaningful. There are moments where it hints at something stronger, but it never follows through. The performances are also inconsistent and fail to elevate the material. Overall, Arizona is a frustrating watch that feels more like a missed opportunity than a fully realized film. Danny's performance gets it an extra star, as does Rosemary DeWitt's. Why some pro critics complain that the 2008 crash isn't proper fodder for a comic and scary film, I say... what could be better? I enjoyed the ride. See more Mr. K. @MrKloud7 Apr 19 Kind of like The Shining in Arizona but the snow storm is the 2008 financial crisis and it's written like Pineapple Express. 1st half is very solid dark comedy, 2nd half tries too hard and poorly to lean into the drama and ends up dragging.
