      Critics Consensus

With plenty of dark humor to leaven the bloody mayhem, Jackpot is an entertaining murder mystery with a suitably quirky Scandinavian twist.

Bruce Ingram Chicago Sun-Times Unabashedly derivative but nonetheless entertaining. Rated: 3/4 Jun 27, 2014 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com "Jackpot" plays like an over-the-top story told by a drunken film fan at a bar: "Dude, I just saw this movie and it was CRAZY. You have to see it." Trust me, you don't. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 27, 2014 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg New York Times As an absurdist suspense film, "Jackpot" mostly hits its marks. As a comedy, it's less successful, stronger on sight gags than on the detective's sarcasm. Jun 26, 2014 Full Review Jim Ross TAKE ONE Magazine As Nordic imports go, it's hardly as offensive as lutefisk. Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Patrick Gamble CineVue Marten's film lacks any discernible charisma or charm. Rated: 2/5 Feb 2, 2019 Full Review Mark Dujsik Mark Reviews Movies Here is a mean-spirited movie about bad-hearted people in which the central question seems to be which of these characters is the nastiest of the lot. Audience Member maybe it was the drugs from surgery but i couldnt get into this one. instead check out the writers other film "Headhunters" - much better execution Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Fans of Pulp Fiction (overkill violence, absurd parts, twists) may like this movie, but be sure to bring along a subtitle track. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member (12%) A Scandinavian movie that is far too clearly influenced by other people's works to even stand a slight chance to make any kind of impact in itself. There's clear borrowings from Shaun of the dead, The usual suspects, with a hint of Tarantino's more comedic elements, only overall not as good as anything it takes its many influences from. The plot along with the lead characters are without question mean-spirited to the core, and nothing is quite funny enough to get past the fact. It's also lazily written and I found it difficult to really care about anything and particularly anyone, and as such I'd advise to give this a miss. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting comic caper from a book by Jo nesbo. Fresh and funny and the lead actor should be a break out star. Its as twisty as Headhunters another Nesbo book movie adaptation Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review sam w This black comedy is humorous throughout, but it never excels and the story ends up being more predictable than it should have been. The acting seems a bit weak in parts, but the lead character is endearing, there is a good mix of violence and gore, and the slapstick fight scenes are fun to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A Norwegian Reservoir Dogs. Strong acting performances, it will have you gripped and guessing throughout - what more do you want? Ignore the reviews as I am sure you normally do, and watch it. Not one to watch with the girlfriend - this is a movie for the night in alone.
