Horror movie director José is adrift in a sea of doubt and drugs. As his belated second feature nears completion, his reclusive bubble is popped by two events: a sudden reappearance from an ex-girlfriend and a package from past acquaintance Pedro: a reel of Super-8 film, an audiotape, and a door key. From there, the boundaries of time, space, and sexuality are erased as José is once more sucked into Pedro's vampiric orbit. Together, they attempt the ultimate hallucinogenic catharsis through a moebius strip of filming and being filmed.

Anton Bitel Little White Lies a film where cinema itself is the ultimate vampire, and its subject the prey, addicted to the rapture of being caught and drained. Apr 17, 2023 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting A dizzying interpretation of art and its effect on artists. It's also one of the looser and more intriguing takes on a cinematic vampire. Rated: 3/5 Nov 8, 2021 Full Review Carlos Aguilar RogerEbert.com "Arrebato" invokes cinema as an otherworldly entity that possesses, just as addictive and destructive as mind-altering substances injected into the bloodstream. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 18, 2021 Full Review Pat Padua Spectrum Culture The director and his collaborators nurse a heroin jones that is evident in nearly every frame, and as the characters constantly seek pleasure, the vanity of that existence, and even of the very act of film making, ends up a death sentence. Apr 12, 2022 Full Review John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) A masterwork of Bava-esque colors, Bergmanesque dislocation and Cronenbergian raptures. Rated: 4/4 Feb 3, 2022 Full Review Shelagh Rowan-Legg ScreenAnarchy There's a reason the title is 'rapture': anything, be it something we consume, or watch, or engage with, can become enrapturing, but what is the damage? What is worth losing ourselves to? Rated: 5/5 Jan 23, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Matt S Utter garbage. 45 minutes in, nothing remotely interesting happens. This is not a horror film, it's a horrible film. Boring. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review Audience Member It's not always clear what's going on in the movie, but the movie is never dull. A surrealist tone interspersed with homoerotic tension, sex and opioid use generate captivating scenes. We follow the main character wander somewhat haphazardly before he is captivated by Pedro. From that moment on, the story is really powered by their mutual attraction. They also share similar but not overlapping addictive patterns. The story is also thus marked by use and withdrawal. The constant interplay between their closeness and distance mirrors the battle between use and withdrawal. When will the person blend with the substance and when will he finally be consumed by it? When will the two become one? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Compelling set pieces and haunting images clash head on with extended bouts of artistic affectations in this hyper-stylized Spanish psychodrama. Arrebato's impact only deepens with repeated viewings. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Esta cinta es hipnótica. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member possibly the ultimate 'cult' film, this rarely seen spanish horror has one of the spookiest endings i've ever seen. it's not that i love cinema...it's cinema that loves me... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member An outstanding film that will such you dry. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
