Alan French Sunshine State Cineplex Art of a Hit hopes to strike the right note but, unfortunately, leans into a few too many cliches for its good. While attempting to create a unique story is admirable, the execution leaves the experience feeling oddly flat. Valerii Ege D Aiming to be the next Studio 666, Art of a Hit intriguingly dives into the anxiety of feeling insignificant, but despite its attempt at depth, it falls flat with its lackluster pacing and nonexistent climax, ending up as a below-average film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Janet L Being a senior citizen and growing up with Creedance and the Eagles, I nonetheless appreciated the deep musicality and larger themes around the artistry, success and self-worth in this movie. Beautiful cinematography also. Highly recommend. J. Lucca Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Tony R What a fantastic movie! I didn't anticipate it being as humorous as it was, but I was pleasantly surprised by the balance of humor and horror. The limited gore allowed the film to focus more on psychological terror, which I found deeply engaging. The ending, with its open-ended possibilities, left me contemplating various outcomes and the underlying reasons for the events that unfolded. While it did make me want to avoid enclosed rooms in castles, the film was still a thrill to watch. The beautiful scenery, clever one-liners, thoughtful monologues, and outstanding cinematography made it a truly memorable experience! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Hammond M The first half is billed as a popcorn, escapist romp as a late 90s band arrives at a haunted chateau to re-record a new album and reverse their failing fortunes a decade past their prime. But where the film shines is the dramatic turn it takes for the worst in the second half. Instead of a bloody 3rd act, the film opts for a mainly bloodless one where the main character gets psychologically gutted instead. The duality of the film for me is where it's brillant: it serves as painful reminder that even a nihilistic viewpoint of artistic pursuits has a very real and psychological toll. I didn't expect the film would be structured like a classic tragedy, and yet by the time we get to the denouement, I found myself much more emotionally affected than I expected. Kuddos to the filmmakers for an unexpected great story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Connor D Band movies just aren’t made anymore. A band movie set in the countryside of France at a castle with a horror backdrop? YES! I loved this film. The directing and cinematography was precise and gorgeous. The chemistry amongst the actors told me they had a blast filming it. And the overall theme of how we define success and what it can do to you as a person was fantastic. Highly recommend this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/23/24 Full Review Katie P Defies genres in unexpected ways. It’s a great movie nonetheless. Agree with other reviewers that it’s not a bloodiest or horror in the traditional sense, much more of an elevated horror or even drama with nightmares. The acting is really good and the music brought me back to the late 2000s. It’s trippy in the best way, and that’s why I liked it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
