David W A great cast that is largely wasted in a tepid and achingly mediocre movie. All concerned have done much better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Audience Member Michael Caine is a man whose black wife, along with a group of African children, are kidnapped by slave traders in Africa, and with the local government unwilling to deal with the matter, he and a friend have to travel across Africa and the Mideast to get the kidnap victims back. What could have been a powerful subject, but it falls flat. Why? Peter Ustinov gives a great performance as the villainous slave trader, but everybody else is going through the motions. There were reportedly problems with the people producing the film with much staff turnover A shame, really, when such an important but underreported subject matter could and should have been brought to the fore. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review a.l.jude p Evil make by humans said in simple as possible. A treat to watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This film was made in spite of its high-ranking cast dreadfully. The picture quality is very bad, despite what time it was. The plot is boring and the film is great IF you want to fall asleep. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review dave j Monday, October 21, 2013 (1979) Ashanti THRILLER/SOCIAL COMMENTARY Adapted from the novel Alberto Vázquez Figueroa called "Ebano" starring Michael Caine as Dr. David Linderby who's wife Dr. Anansa Linderby (Beverly Johnson) both coming as UN doctors has just been kidnapped by slave traders/ sellers led by Suleiman (Peter Ustinov) after taking a swim. David then goes on an obsessive odyssey to track her down along with some help by way of connections from such people as ex merc Jim Sandell played by William Holden and Brian Walker played by Rex Harrison. Omar Sharif also co-stars as Prince Hassan one of the slave buyers and Kabir Bedi as Malik pretty much stole the movie. And real life supermodel, Beverly Johnson looks absolutely stunning as Michael Caine's wife. Aforementioned, the movie is an adaption of a "novel" from what used to happen or what is happening as of right now which doesn't offer anything more then what people know already. A person can pretty much use a fast forward button while playing and still be able to understand it since so much of this movie drags rather than captivate. the author which this movie is based on can also be labelled as a capitalist since it's all common knowledge history about what used to go on in Africa. 2 out of 4 stars Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Actors Boredom Transferred To The Audience, Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
