Like a lot of recent documentaries about the overdue reckoning for sexual predators in positions of power, "Athlete A" is a reminder that the rot is sometimes within the system itself, not just within the criminals it benefits. Go to Full Review

What's striking about the film's tone is its redemptive warmth. Though the details are chilling, it's as if a cathartic space has been opened for these girls and their families to explain what they went through. Go to Full Review

Athlete A is hard to watch but listening to these women’s stories is necessary… The strongest point of the documentary is its focus on the history of the organization and how it evolved into the toxic environment it became. Go to Full Review

Waverley F @Waverleyfarmer Dec 11 A gripping documentary exposing the sexual abuse scandal within USA gymnastics. This film includes testimonies from multiple women describing the abuse they endured which I find meaningful and powerful as they are finally given a platform to share their experiences and call out the program for its disregard for their wellbeing. This film is a hard watch but a necessary one for all to see what these young girls went through while just trying to do the sport they loved. See more Brianna N @briwin Dec 7 I found Athlete A particularly meaningful because it really showed how deeply the victims and their families were affected and revealed just how much corruption was occurring in USA Gymnastics, and other organizations. It was shocking to see that even the biggest stars in the sport were victims of the same scandal, which made the story feel even more real. Beyond the subject matter, I thought the film was well-made with solid pacing, and an engaging and interesting narrative of the case. Overall, it’s a powerful and eye-opening documentary that altered my perspective on professional sports. See more Lian Ashley S 12/13/2024 This documentary was about Team USA’s gymnastics exposing the toxic culture as well as Dr.Larry Nasar’s sexual abuse to multiple young gymnasts. I found this documentary meaningful because as a fan of Team USA’s gymnastics team, I found it very surprising and unfortunate how all these cases were dealt with, prioritizing an organization's fame rather than their athlete's safety and wellbeing. Overall, I thought all these female athletes were so brave and resilient for dealing with all they went through and I think this toxic culture in the professional sports industry needs to be made more aware of. See more Teal A 12/07/2024 This film uncovers the truth about Larry Nassar, and the investigative journalism that IndyStar was doing to uncover the truth. This film shows the harsh reality of how poorly young gymnasts who compete at a high level can be treated, and is a super interesting watch.  See more Luke S 05/24/2023 If you have the strength to watch this all the way through... I salute you... This made me so sad what has happened here. While nothing can be done to change the past, one can only look to the future and hope nothing like this will happen again. This documentary can only be described as a step in the right direction that is very difficult to watch yet I couldn't help but feel that it was important to do so. See more TWMax65 02/17/2023 This documentary was sad, tragic, and heart wrenching yet empowering and satisfying since Justice was largely served at the end of the day. It really makes you think about who you trust your own kids with and what many innocent young individuals go through on a regular basis and not know if or why to report something that happens to them or someone else. I'm really glad that I watched this documentary that no only shed light on the disgusting sexual abuse, but the other kinds of abuse that took place in the gymnastics industry. Just wow...quite an unbelievable and historic scandal that I hope people get educated about. See more Read all reviews
