kevin w Starman, again, this time out to stop baddies from infecting all of outer space with bad nuclear radiation by blowing stuff up here on Earth (because that's how it works and don't you deny it!). This entry into the series acknowledges that their target audience is probably about 8 years old and they make no bones about it, Starman working to make the younglings (there's always younglings in Starman movies) his buds --- and sometimes they've actually got something to do with the plot, but let's don't get distracted. This is about Starman dispatching hordes of baddies, and this he does, no matter the odds. Success. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Radiation from atomic testing on Earth is floating off into space causing concern on other planets. The advisory council of a far off planet (by far the greatest thing in this film and perhaps one of the best things ever committed to film) nominate Starman to go to Earth and do something vague about it. He's given a wrist watch that allows him to fly through space, detect atomic radiation and speak all Earth languages (but not tell the time). For some reason, he takes his fight against atomic devices to Japan, where he promptly saves an airplane, changes into a suit, and rides the wings of the plane to Tokyo. There he picks up the trail of spies from a fictional foreign power, which lead him to some kids ... and then lots of really dull stuff happens. This flick has a spectacularly promising opening, but it really descends into an hour of pure tedium. This film was two hour long films edited down to an hour and a half and then dubbed into English to be shown on US television. It shows ... the plot tends to leap around in an almost avant-garde fashion. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member campy fun made me smile a few times Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Probably one of the better executed Starman films, but it's not as zany as the others. Cheap effects, a bad plot, and cheesy characters- basically the usual. Slowly paced with minimal action, but it can be a little fun. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member This one isn't nearly as fun as Evil Brain from Outer Space, but as far as anti-nuclear statements go it's a better movie than Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Maybe I shouldn't. Still it's not bad, just a little boring. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
