Rob Lowe takes us on a diverting jaunt through the tried and tired formulaic screenwriting tricks; from the "meet cute" to the "maverick cop" to the "talking to tombstones" scene. Go to Full Review

[A] breezy one-hour special... If you wondered exactly why Spike Lee stormed out of the room when the Oscar went to the all-white producers of Green Book a few years ago, look no further. Go to Full Review

Analyzes the permanence of politically correct ideas or Hollywood's perception of them, anyway, while confronting other artistic choices. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

A highly entertaining "one-off" look at the dozens of bare-faced movie tropes we've endured as a society over the past 100 plus years. Go to Full Review

Due tribute is paid to the seminal influence of Dirty Harry and the cliché-defying Jackie Chan, and we get nice nuggets of film history...Where would we be without montages, an editing technique pioneered in Battleship Potemkin and perfected in Rocky IV? Go to Full Review

Marc Z @TKDLife 06/27/2023 If you like movies and enjoy the historical development of films this is a super-fun, fast paced, and compact engagement of your time. Rob Lowe does a fun job hosting and guiding us on a tour of Hollywood Cliches through film clips and guest commentators. The fun is how many movie scenes they manage to pack into this 1 hour show. It is really fun, in my opinion, but I am a movie nut. I hope for more in the series. See more Anastasia G 05/10/2023 Very entertaining! If you love cinema, it's fun to watch. I wish they created series: one cliche-one episode like they did on swear words. See more 08/12/2022 Nothing here that you aren't familiar with, and that's the whole point. A fun and irreverent look at the tropes we all know and love. See more 04/29/2022 Honestly this is what I expected from a movie talking about cliche. It's an hour long lecture going from corrupt police, gays and lesbians being killed off first in movies, white privilege and how black people are presented unrealistic in movies. An example these people gave was in The Legend of Bagger Vance They were blown away with the fact that a black man was so interested in fixing Matt Damon's swing during the time period where black people were being lynched. So if you want the typical hour long lecture from Hollywood criticising the country that gave them the freedom to do this then go ahead and watch it. Or you could just watch a YouTube video of Hollywood Cliches which will without a doubt be better. You ever wonder why the tomato meter is always so high and the audience score is so low? It's basically normal level headed people can recognize a bad movie no matter the political angle. See more 11/19/2021 I really enjoyed it, up until they started talking about racism, and the 'magical negro'. Then I suddenly found it very offensive. Not just because they were framing this in the ludicrous context of race, but because its not true. The cliche is not about a magical negro, who helps white people, but rather the wise man cliche. Typically an old man, a man who helps guide the Main character and the story. By leading them or helping them overcome some issue. Think Old Ben in Star Wars, or Gandalf in LotR. Neither white, both performing the exact same role. Overall, its a decent bit of entertainment. Just with a bit of PC silliness. See more 10/17/2021 It's cliche to write this. But this film is nothing but smug film critics whining about how awful, sexist, racist, and conservative Hollywood is. The irony is palpable. The best part of the film is Rob Lowe honestly.
