kevin w A typical gangster flick, especially typical because the star power gives the thing wings. Mickey Rooney as a psycho killer? You will believe it when you see it, and Carolyn Jones as the strangely obsessed girlfriend also plays true. Directed by Don Siegel, this baby is a surprise from start to finish, particularly as Rooney plays the killer as a barely controlled coward. Good stuff. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Nothing special but a good early spotlight role for Carolyn Jones. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Mediocre cops and robbers tale. Though released in 1957, the black n white film appears to be made in 1937. Mickey Rooney stars in his breakout role as a real adult (instead of that series as Andy Hardy). The real star for me is the outrageously appealing Carolyn Jones (who was obviously copied in Pulp Fiction). Rooney's flowery performance as the trigger-happy hood with the inferiority complex over being short and the wall-to-wall action, give this Prohibition-era set B-film its pulse." NOTES: 1 A low budget film shot in 17 days.
