brendan n The film is quite funny, but considering the talented Molloy in the lead role, it fails to capture a consistent tone. The film plays out like a slapstick murder mystery early on and the tone is dark. You would class this as a dark comedy, but it isn't that dark, only some of the plot points of the storyline. I would say this is underwhelming and not the film I was hoping it would be. The talent in front of the camera attempt to breath life into the characters, but ultimately it struggles. Some funny beats and fun, but ultimately a film that fails with the concept and delivery. 01/04/2019 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Not a bad Australian cop-comedy. It's fairly inoffensive, with a simple corruption storyline, but there's certainly some funny bits, including the great first scene. Both Molloy & Franklin are good, with some small bits for Lucy, Brough & Micallef. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member slightly offbeat and predictable, but nevertheless, its aimable entertainment. mick molloy and judith lucy, despite their surroundings are even more bored in this role than others i've seen. a very unsuspenseful finale scene where a trade is organised between two groups is well filmed, but seems amateurish and predictable. could've been better. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Bad Eggs is one bad egg of a movie. Pathetic & a total waste of much Aussie comic talent. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member There's definitely a strain of lower budget Melbourne movies around that has it all over bigger boofier Sydney ones. Going back to Proof (Jocelyn Moorhouse, 1991) and beyond. Just when overblown films like Dirty Deeds (David Caesar, 2001) were overheating on style and excess Bad Eggs is a mixed genre piece - a comedy within a thriller that actually works. Mick Molloy and Bob Franklin are just terrific as two hapless but feisty cops in a bent anti crime unit and the whole movie is packed with sight gags, far too much plot and the wonderful comedy talent of the slightly deranged Judith Lucy. Tony Martin, Molloy's long time partner, writes, produces and directs with never a hint of hubris - Bad Eggs is a model of privately funded indie filmmaking, and it's cracking good fun all the way! VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theatre, buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Being a Martin/Molloy fan from way back, I am ashamed that it took me 7 years to getting around to watch this. Two minutes in and I had the biggest smile that did not leave my face up until the credits rolled. More clever than usual black comedy full of that quirky Aussie sense of humour that is needs to be applauded when it works, like in this movie. It looks great, is well directed and the cast look like they are having fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
