Critics Consensus

Bad Moms boasts a terrific cast and a welcome twist on domestic comedy -- and they're often enough to compensate for the movie's unfortunate inability to take full advantage of its assets.

Jess Kibler Bitch Media I wasn't expecting some sort of deep, philosophical dive into motherhood from this film. I was simply expecting to laugh maybe once. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online It has no substance; it doesn't say anything. Rated: C Mar 21, 2017 Full Review Rebecca Hawkes Daily Telegraph (UK) A little more vinegar... and Bad Moms could have been a genuinely subversive comedy, rather than just a sweetly funny one. Rated: 3/5 Aug 29, 2016 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine If nothing else it represents 100 minutes in the company of several very funny comic actors. That hardly seems a terrible way to spend your time. Rated: 6/10 Jul 7, 2024 Full Review Emma Clark-Dow Stuff.co.nz Although the plot may sound simple in its nature, it’s amazing how much self-described bad moms can do. Audience Member If there was 1 movie to appreciate your mom. This was it for me. Actually watched it with my mom once.. turned to her at the end and said thank you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review Julie M Clearly written by men. Characters were stereotypical and cartoonish. The only reason I gave it any stars is that it was cast well. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/04/24 Full Review Yasmin E Honestly, surprisingly good! I did not know what I was expecting, but this movie definitely made me laugh. Sure, every once and a while in certain movies the sex jokes feel overused; and sure, sometimes i felt like they overused the sex jokes here as well. However, did I dislike it? No, not at all. They were placed in times were they would fit and made them work wonderfully for my taste. For a comedy, they also handle serious topics pretty well may I add. Divorce? Check. Kids during divorce? Check. Shitty husbands? Check. Motherhood? Check. Honestly I don't want kids at the moment, and this movie doesn't really make me want to have kids. HOWEVER, in the future, when and IF I want kids, it would be because of this movie. Also, shoutout to all the moms out there who are trying their best; because truly, being a mom sounds exhausting. But all of you are doing your best, and that is more than enough. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Audience Member Bad Moms is a comedic thrill, with just enough sweet moments to make it a fun movie for moms(and older kids) alike! While it may lag in some parts, and be slightly over dramatic, the comedy and chemistry between the moms gives a movie enjoyable enough to watch at least a few times to actually absorb it all, since the first time, a few parts will be so quick and unexpected your brain will be going WHAT THE HELL. But, this movie is enjoyable in all ways, with the comedy, sweetness, and relatable moments for moms. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Nathan W It had moments that mad me laugh, but they were few and far between. The story was interesting enough but the writing felt very mundane, and even bizarre at times. I can see what they were going for here, it just didn't quite hit the mark. Kathryn Hahn was the most interesting character in this movie and even she couldn't save it. Not the worst thing I've ever seen, but there are much better movies like this out there. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Gigsy V Anyone watching a film like this thinking they're going to get something profound is a doughnut. It's obviously not that kind of film. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Mila is obviously not that hard on the eyes. She carries the film and I do think it wouldn’t work as well if you put someone else as the lead because it has a wafer-thin and silly plot. But, the concept re: her breaking bad a is a fun one. Fun film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
