When David and his fiancée Meg gather for his family's traditional Shabbat dinner on New York's Upper West Side, things spiral faster than you can say "hamotzi" when an accidental death (or...murder?) derails the evening entirely. With Meg's devoutly Catholic parents due any moment to meet David's very Jewish family, soon Shabbat becomes a comedy of biblical proportions.

Nell Minow Movie Mom The tone of the film may be heightened, exaggerated for comic purposes, but unlike too many other movies this film never makes the Jewish characters into caricatures and the details are precise and affectionate. It’s very dark, but it is also very funny. Rated: B+ May 24, 2025 Full Review Natalia Winkelman New York Times This is, after all, a situational comedy, in which the laughs spring from reaction shots and line deliveries. Luckily, the actors prove up to the task. May 22, 2025 Full Review Alissa Simon Variety A strong ensemble cast nails the tasty dialogue and increasingly frantic action without falling into shtick. Jun 20, 2024 Full Review Hannah Brown Jerusalem Post Will it offend some people? Undoubtedly. But it will make many more laugh, and a lot of people will see themselves and their family members in the characters. May 27, 2025 Full Review Aaron Neuwirth We Live Entertainment This film is not so much a satire as it is a stage play come to life (although not truly, in this instance), but the bigness only allows the film to remain as playful as it does. Rated: 7/10 May 23, 2025 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said ...a sly brew of stealth, bold decisions so bizarre and funny they would be unbelievable except for Cliff the doorman whose sheer brilliance mimics a runaway train. It opens corny and silly, quickly becomes edgy and the third act – wow! Rated: 4/4 May 23, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews
