      Critics Consensus

In spite of a promising concept and a charmingly brazen performance from Cameron Diaz, Bad Teacher is never as funny as it should be. Read critic reviews

      Movie Info

For most, teaching is an honorable profession -- except for Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz). The foul-mouthed, boozy woman can't wait to marry a rich man and quit her job, but she has to rethink her plans when her sugar daddy dumps her. Then Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake), a substitute teacher who's cute and rich, arrives. Elizabeth can't wait to sink her teeth into a new meal ticket, but she faces stiff competition from Amy (Lucy Punch), a popular and perky colleague.

Funny scenes but not really a good movie. But it's defiantly worth watching if it's on cable

Bad Teacher is what we expect it to be, It's quite funny with an easy cast, Some adult humour and a story nobody really cares about, Bad Teacher does what it's supposed to do nothing more nothing less.

"Bad Teacher" starts with Principal Snur(John Michael Higgins) holding court over the annual end of year party for John Adams Middle School where he bids fond farewell to Elizabeth Halsey(Cameron Diaz), one of the teachers, who is getting married. However, she is back three months later, across the hall from Amy Squirrel(Lucy Punch), because the wedding fell through because it turns out she may have actually been in it for the money. While showing her students videos in class, Elizabeth sets her sights on Scott Delacorte(Justin Timberlake), the new substitute and heir to a family fortune. With such a potentially huge catch, she figures she is going to need larger bait and wants to get a boob job, even trying out a pair for a test drive, but lacks the funds or the credit. That does not mean she will not try, taking over the school car wash which instantly sends every seventh grader headlong into puberty prematurely. Like a lot of other movies, the mildly amusing "Bad Teacher" has no idea what to do with its anti-hero, failing to balance out her good and bad sides. While she is clearly smart and perceptive, we could have used a little backstory to explain how somebody whose sole ambition in life it is to marry a wealthy guy ends up teaching in a public school.(I could see private school due to all the rich parents, however.) Despite all of the adult material, the movie is not really that outrageous, especially considering how many videos I watched in 10th grade history(like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" for example), thus explaining my gap in knowledge in European history. Even then, there are a few good jokes, but the one note performances and subpar direction certainly do little to help.

An inevitable, cop-out ending spoils whatever twisted fun this "subversive" mainstream comedy supplies in its earlier sections. Another odd problem is that the Cameron Diaz character's nemesis is sexier than Diaz is -- who do we root for? The comic talents of Justin Timberlake are wasted, beyond one amusing sex scene. And Jason Segel? Aging fast.
