Critics Consensus

Baggage Claim hits the same notes as a number of successful romantic comedies without establishing much personality of its own.

Honestly, I don't know what to say about this movie, because it feels so phenomenally old-fashioned and outdated, so ridiculously conservative and undermining of female independence. Go to Full Review

Roozbeh G Oct 7 Baggage Claim wants to be a bright, feel-good romantic comedy — but it ends up so polished, so relentlessly upbeat, that it almost feels like a B-movie trying too hard to look like an A-list production. Paula Patton gives her all as Montana Moore, a flight attendant on a desperate quest to find a husband before her sister’s wedding. The premise has potential, but the film leans too heavily on contrived setups and recycled romantic tropes. Every “surprise” is predictable, every heartfelt moment feels staged, and the story unfolds like it’s been through one too many focus groups. The cast — including Taye Diggs, Jill Scott, and Derek Luke — adds bursts of charm, but even their charisma can’t save a script that mistakes energy for substance. The movie’s glossy visuals and upbeat soundtrack make everything feel airbrushed, stripping away any sense of authenticity or emotional depth. By the end, Baggage Claim feels less like a journey of love and more like a carefully packaged product — shiny on the surface but hollow inside. It’s pleasant enough to watch on a lazy afternoon, but it won’t stay with you once the credits roll. See more Haley M 12/29/2023 I love this sweet film, it's funny and heartwarming. Paula Patton is such a great actor, and gorgeous and smart.
