Katie McCabe Sight & Sound Baltimore is not really a biopic. You could call it a ‘character-driven heist movie’, a moody triptych that leaps freely between timelines. May 7, 2024 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) ... An impressionistic and sometimes dreamlike account of someone finding meaning in a hopeless world while remaining blind to its enormous human cost. Rated: 4/5 Mar 25, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) A fascinating psychological study of fanaticism, with Poots’s expressive performance unpeeling the layers beneath Dugdale’s fervent belief in her cause. Rated: 4/5 Mar 25, 2024 Full Review Philip Bagnall Loud and Clear Reviews Try as the cast might, Joe Lawlor and Christine Molloy‘s film Baltimore fails to get under the skin of a determined firebrand. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 19, 2024 Full Review Jack Martin Film Feeder Baltimore is a disappointing attempt to dramatize the interesting life of debutante-cum-activist Rose Dugdale, which despite a strong turn by Imogen Poots lacks the focus and intrigue to make her story work on the screen. Rated: 2/5 Aug 5, 2024 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Although the nonlinear screenplay keeps the action at a frustrating emotional distance, the film captures the period while yielding an intriguing and thoughtful sociopolitical perspective. Tom V Very little to recommend this film. Shot as a series of acts each ending in a crescendo of sound to heighten effect that was not portrayed in the film itself. I don't know who the director is but I suspect it is somebody who did some theatre direction but both are completely different vehicles. The acting overall was good particularly Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Dermot Crowley but dialogue was constantly drowned by background sound and bad voice overs/projection/mumbling which is a problem in film today. As for the story itself, it needed to be told...properly Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Michael P Absolute dog shite, what a waste of a Saturday evening Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Michael R Very good! Poots is great in this. Interesting story. Other viewers have commented about the multiple time lines and purported "loud" music. I did not find either of these problematic and wouldn't even have noticed them much if I hadn't seen comments about them. Great visuals too (beautiful scenery, visually captivating shots etc.). A film where for myself anyhow I felt engaged and interested all the way through from beginning to end - and actually sorta wished it wasn't really over at the end. Will definitely watch it again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/13/24 Full Review Andy B The acting is good, but the jumping all over the place structure of the film and intrusive, blaring musical cues feel more like an attempt to prop up interest rather than to tell an engaging story. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Scott S I covered the war in Northern Ireland in 1972 during the bloodiest month of the entire war, then returned in 1987, 1991, and 1993. I thought this was both an accurate depiction of typical IRA members (contrary to the stereotypes by any number of fans and critics) and a fascinating story I knew nothing about. Anyone with an interest in the subject will enjoy "Rose's War" (I rented and streamed for $4.99 on Amazon Prime Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Bonnie B I have never been so bored while watching a movie, awful I cannot believe I spent money to see this Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
