Barbara Walters (Sept. 25, 1929-Dec. 30, 2022) didn't just report the news -- she made news. She was a true American original and a trailblazer who broke ground for women in broadcasting. The documentary gives viewers an intimate and raw look at her astonishing career, personal life, and the challenges she faced trying to balance it all as a woman in a male-dominated industry. Walters, in her own words, also reflects on the high price of fame and the legacy she hoped to inspire.

Alissa Wilkinson New York Times Seen through a different lens, it’s also fascinating — a rather thrilling history of television journalism, as seen through Walters’s life. Jun 27, 2025 Full Review Jeremy Barr Washington Post It’s an extremely thorough and enjoyable recap of the life of an extraordinary, pioneering television journalist. But it never really goes deeper than that. Jun 23, 2025 Full Review Christian Blauvelt IndieWire Is it fair of us now to ask her to do have done more to initiate real change? Probably not. That’s easy enough for us to say with the hindsight of 2025. “Tell Me Everything” is sharp enough not to ask that of her either. Rated: B+ Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Tom Santilli Movie Show Plus It left me with a deep respect for her drive, her ambition, and the impact she made. Rated: A- Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Carla Renata The Curvy Film Critic Barbara Walters was the pioneer of normalizing that women can and will succeed at nearly everything men dared us not to accomplish.  This uplifting,eye-opening doc is anything but dull - just like Barbara Walters would have wanted it. Jul 8, 2025 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies In a world where interviews are now self-produced, filtered, and commodified in real time, Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything reminds us of a time when asking the right question — and really listening to the answer — was an art form in itself. Jace T I was still really young when Barbara Walters was at some of the heights of her career, so I never really paid much attention to her, or her legacy. This documentary really opened my eyes to the legend and legacy she has created for many many people, especially woman. This film shows a person who is fearless and bold, but yet can connect with anyone. With the way the world operates now a days, she was a pinnacle foundation in creating how news and interviews happen. RIP to a real heroin and idol. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Garry A I loved how this was a warts and all documentary. I liked learning about the dark side of her success. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/03/25 Full Review Les N Fascinating...ahead of her time for America. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Stephen C Real footage in 1 hour and 35 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/03/25 Full Review S S BW was always boring and still is. This documentary is no deep dive. Although not entirely complimentary, it is mainly a puff piece. I got more of a sense that she was in the right place at the right time rather than a real maverick or trail blazer. There are other way smarter female journalists who were that! She may have led the way for female TV journalists in the US, but outside of that arena she didn't contribute much. In fact I think she did harm. Her intrusive, salacious questions, that some praised her for and became her trademark, did actual harm and her interviews were and are incredibly cringy to watch. Today, celebrities refuse to answer such questions and walk out of interviews when they feel violated! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/27/25 Full Review Read all reviews
