James Plath Family Home Theater Mattel-Universal has gone to the well way to many times for a mermaid-themed Barbie movie, and The Pearl Princess feels trapped at the bottom, mired in repetition and sameness. Suzanne This movie is so underrated. I love iy! I love its goofiness. And as for the complete nonsense with the eels Kuda was always using her tail to grab is the same thing the eels were doing. A tail is pretty strong to use to grab onto but because aren't a seahorse or a fish we forget about it! The eels held the cards with their tails and yes I believe that is one 100% percent as possible as a seahorse gripping and anchoring herself onto a human's hand, further more Lumina is the most feminine Barbie character out there and she doesn't hide it. I believe she's a great role model. And in the ocean they were really farther deeper down than Ariel's ocean kingdom so I don't believe the story takes place on Earth despite the appearance of some common Earth species of fish and plus fish underwater won't notice how long the day has lasted the oceans of any world are always in motion. Actually look before you judge. It also gives a better example of when it's time to break a rule and this movie very clearly explained and shown that it was a life and death reason to break a certain rule and sometimes in real life it must be done! It's the basic parody of the Rapunzel story for younger girls and nobody will make me change my mind. And it is my second favorite Barbie movie all time with the originally created Barbie as Rapunzel being my third top favorite movie of all time. I didn't like the original as much because there was too much and fighting in it. Hated the fact that it always taught kids nothing could be solved without some type of drama happening. The drama is one side and Lumina isn't causing it. She fixes it though due to the fact she's a little mischievous sometimes for great reasons. And this is an opinion from a 25 year old and I've watched thhe movie 3 times already and I still love every bit of it. The only reason I see other people hating this and giving it less than it deserves because they're down right bored. I wasn't bored at all and I doubt kids around my age or younger than my agr would ever get bored of this movie. And I know I certainly won't. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/21/23 Full Review Jen T My girls loved this film Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Audience Member It was quite unexpected but this was a nice little underwater fairytale. Barbie is back, but with less of her classic tropes. It's a classic fairytale, quite predictable, but the underwater scenery in general elevates it a lot. The story is predictable, quite the cliche, but honestly the setting makes the whole story seem rather fresh. It has the typical Barbie moments and transformations, but well, it's really fun. A fun, mermaid adventure. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Repetitive to other Barbie Mermaid Movies, but featured thrilling adventures, great friends, and of course, princesses.
