      Critics Consensus

Unable to match the suspense and titilation of its predecessor, Basic Instinct 2 boasts a plot so ludicrous and predictable it borders on "so-bad-it's-good."

Sylvie P One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Not sure why I kept watching... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Marek D Just watched it because of Sharon Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review donnie m sharon stone is a horrible actress-she should just do porn Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/15/23 Full Review Michael G Basic Instinct 2 deserves a much better rating than the ones given by critics. Obviously there are a lot of politics behind the scenes going on. A plausible reason could be even the silly fact that the location was changed from the USA to London. Who knows. But the movie is definitely a very well crafted sequel to the original. Sharon Stone's Catherine is true to the character from 1992. The cinematography and locations presented to the viewer are just beautiful. The plot is intriguing, never boring and up to the final moment captivating. The soundtrack is dangerously sexy. I can only recommend this film. It's a worthy sequel that even made me wish for a third part. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review R C Surprised at the immense number of low ratings for this sequel. Sharon Stone did much the same as the original. The male leads are easily manipulated by her character which allows for an ending I'm still trying to understand. Overall, not as a bad as rated on Rotten Tomatoes. Just not amazing either. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review Georgan G The plot was silly but the erotic part was darned good. SPOILER: Our heroine is driving a shrink crazy by teasing him sexually and leading him on about facts in murder cases. Any shrink worth her/his salt can't be so obviously manipulated by a psychopath. Nigel Andrews Financial Times Morrissey gives a good impersonation of a lobotomised Liam Neeson: possibly the only way to play a character dead from the script upwards. Rated: 1/5 Oct 7, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Poor Sharon Stone. She's still big; it's the erotic thrillers that got small. Rated: 1/5 Jan 27, 2007 Full Review Linda Ruth Williams Sight & Sound This is psychoanalytic fable rewritten as pulp fiction. Perhaps that's why it's so ludicrously entertaining. Sep 28, 2006 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...settles for a downgraded remake of the first film... Rated: 1/5 Jul 29, 2021 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Stone appears to have torn a page from the soap-opera textbook of come-hither acting. Rated: .5/5 Jan 31, 2021 Full Review Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting Glass is clearly meant to be a morally gray doctor...but that ambiguity and Morrissey's lack of sexual chemistry with Stone (who is vacant in her second go at the character) simply drains the life from this whole enterprise.
